Need a great meeting space? Hello, Almshill Room

I posted a photo the other day of the 8 new Muddy editors (hello Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Cornwall, Northants, Berkshire, Norfolk and Sussex, and not forgetting the lovely Pippa who already runs Muddy Hertfordshire). I had a lovely response, so thank you, but also had quite a few people asking where in The Quince Tree the photo was taken because they couldn’t work out where it was!

Actually, fact fans, it was the mezzanine above the cafe, because I’d hired out The Almshill Room on the top floor for the day. You might not know about The Almshill (unless you’ve been to a yoga class or a special event in it) but your emails have prodded me to write this post, because it’s a fantastic space if you’re looking to put on a meeting, hold an event or have a mini conference.

I choose The Almshill for its centrality – when you’re trying to find a meeting point for people in Norfolk and Cornwall, Henley is a good shout Also because I’m a big fan of The Quince Tree with its fab deli/food shop,  cafe, pub, plus this fab Almshill Room – all white and light and modern (not a patterned carpet in site), with the mezzanine around the corner for mingling. Look, isn’t it amazing?

I spent the whole day here, so I paid for regularly refreshed tea and coffee, pastries in the morning and afternoon tea, plus lunch. Because sitting on your butt talking about the pubs and theatres you like is *cough*  exhausting and requires constant sustenance. The service and food was excellent for my little meeting, I couldn’t fault it.

My one niggle was that, with 13 of us all on laptops trying to get on the Muddy server at the same time, the wifi was a bit slow on the day I visited – apparently The Quince Tree are zooping up their wireless to sort that one in the next few weeks, so that shouldn’t be an issue going forward, but it’s worth checking it out for yourself prior to booking just to be double sure. Certainly The Almshill is perfect for a smaller number of computers on the go (I plugged mine into the enormous TV and it worked brilliantly), flip boarding and general brain-storming. Or, if the very thought of a business meeting give you the snorezzzzzz,it would be great for local meetings, private dinners and more social stuff when you can’t face using the scruffy Village Hall yet again.

The cost for my day there was about £50 a head, but then I did have absolutely every bell and whistle available and was there from 9am from 6pm. I know, I haven’t worked that hard since my A-levels.

Dark falls, and still we work....

Dark falls, and still we work. Although, um, yes, that’s a bottle of champers in the foreground…

Obviously every booking is different, so you can negotiate on the budget – there’s a half day rate, and several other variations on the theme. If you’re interested, Dorrianne is the lady I dealt with, really lovely and helpful and on the end of the phone on 01491 639039.

Right, that’s way enough business talk for one morning. Off to watch WWE Smackdown with the Mudlets. Tootle pip!

Hero x
