Coming for a ride?

pirates and cicla march 2013 021
My first outdoor ride of the year. I know, that’s pathetic. But I did put my back out for several weeks in February by, um, sneezing. True!

Anyway, here I am earlier today, pro to the core, road testing some new gear from the brilliant Cicla, one of the few UK online stores to focus on female riding clothes.

Today I was wearing the Capo Cipressa womens thermal cycling jacket and the Capo Modena Donna Roubaix cycling three quarter length shorts. They’re designed for cooler days and frankly with this vile weather, I can see several months more wear out of them yet.

The trews did their job brilliantly – they’re quite fleecy but still breathable – and I seriously loved the white jacket the black graphic detail. Low enough down the back to protect you from builder’s bum, and good timing with monochrome in fashion for spring/summer if you want to get Vogue-y about it.

Pretty, skinny, young. Don't tell me, she's probably a really good writer too. Bee-itch!

Me, wearing my blonde training wig. Oh I look good.

By the way, the jacket is now in the sale (down from £150 to £109.99; three-quarter shorts are £100) so if you’re looking for inclement gear or you’re a beginner not sure what you need for a proper ride, get onto the Cicla website and have a mooch around for a bargain.

Still on cycling, if you’re looking for a goal to work towards, how about the Rapha Womens 100? The iconic clothing brand is encouraging around the world to ride 100km on 7 July 2013, the same day as the Etape du Tour (the amateur cyclist’s chance to ride a major mountain stage of the 100th edition of the Tour de France). Get a group of your mates together, choose a pretty route and have a great day out on two wheels. Hey, maybe we should do a Muddy bike club for the day. Ooh, my mind is racing already – someone had better apply the brakes, and quick!

Hi Hero, if there are beginners or even experienced women cyclists that would like to ‘get on their bike’ but prefer in a group with all the route etc. sorted, there is the DIVA Warwickshire 25k / 50k or 100k event in Stratford Upon Avon on 19 May. In aid of Action Medical Research, children’s Charity currently funding a number of research studies in Oxford JR hospital, Oxford Uni and Oxford Children’s Hospital.
