Have a vintage Christmas

IMG_8838

Buying vintage, particularly for the home, has become incredibly popular, a dead-cert way to show individuality and steer away from the potential blandness of the high street. But pre-loved Christmas presents are still not really on most people’s radar, are they? We still end up going to John Lewis for everything because it’s sparkly and pristine and, well, new. I’m as guilty as the next person, perhaps more so as I’m so horrifically disorganised and tend to buy everything on Christmas Eve.

But on the basis of my visit to the ever-amazing The Old Flight House near Bicester yesterday I am stupid and bonkers because, seriously, there’s so much amazing stuff for Christmas in here. Cufflinks for £8, decanters for £25, candelabras, cocktail shakers, reindeer antlers, jewellery oozing from every corner, and this being The Old Flight House, all beautifully presented. I’m definitely going to plunder the interiors section for Festive-up my house this year and have already spotted something for Mr Muddy (lips sealed for obvious reasons – he’s probably looking at the photos right now trying to work out what I’m getting him. Good luck fella, I HAVEN’T TAKEN A PIC OF IT! ).

It’s quite a challenge for a massive vintage emporium like The Old Flight House in a small rural village to create a buzz around Christmas but hats off to them and the various stall-holders, they’re well into the Christmas spirit. Even the stuffed boar is trying to working the tinsel.

The Old Flight House is open 7 days a week, but if you can’t justify a trip there for its own sake (er, why not, crazy person?!), you can always tie in a little vintage detour with a trip to Rousham Gardens, Bicester Village or Blenheim Palace. There, I’ve given you three reasons to go, but nce you’ve seen how fab this place is, trust me, you won’t need them again.
