Mon dieu! The perfect candle

Hmmm, you’ve reached an older feature - let’s get you up to date! Read our latest Interiors features here.

I’m in love with this cable-knit giant candle. My son Finn bought it for me for Christmas after raiding his piggy bank of £25 (Do I feel guilty?
Er, nearly …)

As you can see, it’s a total work of art and almost too beautiful – it feels like an act of vandalism to set fire to it.

Created by candle designers Bougies la Francaise (they white label their stuff to the top fashion houses), this particular candle is called Altitude 4810. Take a trip to London and buy one at stockists Selfridges, Heals, The Conran Shop – or make life easy for yourself and tootle along the White Lion House antique shop in Thame which sells a small but beautifully formed selection of BlF’s wax works.

Talking of White Lion House, the shop has (aside from the candles) some classy interiors pieces, from French dressers, cosy armchairs and wicker baskets to photo frames, curios and beyond. Frankly, it’s a godsend for on-offs and unusual gifts on those days when Cargo tea light holders just won’t cut it.
