Hmmm, you’ve reached an older feature - let’s get you up to date! Read our latest Interiors features here.
If you read Muddy Stilettos regularly you’ll know that I’m always on the look out for interiorsy people who are a bit out of the ordinary, that dare to stick their heads above the parapet of Farrow & Ball french grey and shaker style furnishings.
You’ll find this post largely a visual one because frankly that’s what it’s all about. I’m very excited about a company called Velvet Eccentric, based just outside Banbury. Two very giggly, charming, talented women Hannah Baud (below left) and Rachel Berger (oh come on!) started their company 18 months ago, largely on the back of Berger’s massive experience as a decorative painter, consultant and refurbisher. Berger has worked for Pearl Lowe and Patrick Stewart, designs all the metallic finishes for the bath company C.P Hart and is clearly passionate about what she does.
But obviously two heads are better than one because the girls not only get along famously, but they’ve just started to design a small range for the massively cool, stylised Gifford’s Circus.
Their aesthetic? Well, it’s clearly bright, bold and joyful, slightly quirky left to their own devices. They source fantastic vintage or unusual fabrics, reupholster to commission or to their own tastes, repaint and varnish, the lot.
Although they have an impressive checklist of famous or cool clients, they’re not at all snobby or cliquey and importantly are not attempting to thrust a one-size fits all interiors style on their clients.
They’ll offer a free initial consultation at your house – I’m definitely going to try that -so if you’re looking to give your place a boost, give them a call.
