Just looking at this photo brightens my day. I took snaps of these brightly printed fabrics in the tiny haberdashery shop Darn It & Stitch in central Oxford a few weeks back now. The selection of patterns is bold and bijoux, as befits a little shop tucked away in Blue Boar St (just down from the Oxford Town Hall). But it’s a shop with a strong local following and a really unique feel, with the owner dolled up in vintage and and knitting clubs and sewing workshops all regularly promoted.
You can buy ribbon, cotton, silk, wool and anything else you care to imagine with needlework and there’s a funky little website to direct you to the various things going on in-store.
Frankly I’m absolutely hopeless at this kind of thing but there’s still something wonderful at running your hand over a roll of ribbon and fabric, then, um, buying it for your mum to make something for you. Hey, don’t judge me, she enjoys it!
