Beauty hot spot

Hmmm, you’ve reached an older feature - let’s get you up to date! Read our latest Beauty features here.

The bijou Oasis Health & Beauty spa in Great Missenden won Best Beauty Salon in my recent Awards (loving that signage above the door by the way!) and now I can show you why so many people voted for it.

The place itself is pretty but modest – just two beauty rooms and a nail bar – but the main selling point for Oasis is the hands-on owner Hannah. She performs all the hot stone massages herself and obviously still relishes the customer side of the job, really knows her stuff, and uses Elemis ‘because it’s British and not trialed on animals’ which I like.

Crucially, the massage was also fantastic – absolutely the right pressure, enough to make a difference, not enough to make you ask for the gas and air.

The sarong on the bed. Thinking of the beach to come!

A sarong on the treatment bed, taking me to my happy place.

The facial was great too – I managed to lose an hour so obviously I went to the land of snore for a while. And I loved Hannah for delicately assuming that my skin may be ‘a little dry’ as my epidermis started rampantly slurping Oasis’s emergency supplies of deep moisturiser creams.

Then it was a matter of nails.

You may snigger when I tell you that until this moment in time I didn’t know what gel nails were. (Am I alone in this? God I’m such a loser). I thought they were the false French-manicurey straight-endy ones seen endlessly in TOWIE. Partly for that reason I’ve never bothered with manicures, being of the ‘slap it on the car at high speed and blame the messy application on your daughter’ school of thought.

But no, gels are paint-on jobs that don’t chip or scrape for 8 weeks on your toes or 3 weeks on your hands.

And here are the little beauties!

May at home and Dreamboys 158
I ran out of time to have gel fingers, so they’re ‘normal’ but still in perfect nick after a week.  I discovered post-manicure how difficult it is to get a picture of your nails without your fingers looking like Old English sozzies, hence the shot below. Shame about virtually everything else in the shot, but at least you can see the nails!

My fantastic nails. And my dreadful hair. Can't have it all!

Anyway, the good news for us is that Hannah is still feeling all kind-hearted towards Muddy Stilettos, so she’s offering anyone who subscribes a fantastic deal; ideal if you’re looking to buy gifts for people or want a bit of pre-summer pampering.

Basically it’s this: book in for £50 worth of treatments by this Saturday 25 May (this can be a voucher, you don’t have to have the treatments immediately) and you’ll be given another £25 worth of treatments/vouchers for free. Or book in for £100 treatments and you’ll get £50 free. So basically an extra 50% for nothing. I know!!

So even if you want to buy them for Christmas, get in now and save yourselves some money. Just mention Muddy Stilettos to qualify for the discount.
