New season Needle!

Needle-AW15-Image-Style-Cleo-ú1993-1024x683

At the beginning of a new fashion season I used to always read up religiously on the latest trends. Now the glossy mag fashion show summaries make me roll my eyes a bit – this season, for example, monochrome is the way to go (like, again) but er, apparently pretty pinks, creams or vibrant glitteries are all ‘in’ too. Suits are rebooted, but, um, so are maxi skirt dresses. Waists are cinched and ankle socks exposed but if you’ve got little short legs or a waist as round as your breasts what you gonna do?

I’ve finally come to the conclusion that the really fashionable thing to do these days is to ignore fashion editors altogether and choose pieces that you really love, and can last  season after season. My secret fashion weapon (or not so secret since I wrote about it on the blog last year) is Needle, a brilliant indie knitwear brand based between Bucks, London and Yorkshire whose modern take on classic cashmere and wools (cashmere colour blocking last year for example), is how intend to fill my wardrobe this winter.

Needle designs sit prettily on the axis of trendy-but-classic; designer-but-affordable. Think high-end high street retailers like Whistles or Reiss but with smaller runs and better branding!

Having bought FIVE of their jumpers last year, I’ve been onto the Needle website and earmarked at least four new jumpers I’m going to get this season (and can justify this entirely, thanks very much, because my house is so freezing over winter I need to be wearing as much wool as possible!).

Casy. That’s the jumper, not the model

Number one on the hitlist is this 90% merino 10% cashmere ‘Casy’ jumper in coral, mink and cream (£129) though I’m also tempted by the blue version below. Which one do you reckon? I think I’m veering to coral.

I did promise myself I’d get out of my habit of grey and dark colours this winter, but I love the colour blocking and striped arms on this Camilla jumper. 100% cashmere and with really lovely detailing on the cuff and on the dipped hem at the back.

Camilla pale grey

Camilla pale grey, navy and sky blue, £179

Celine

Celine: A winter take on the Breton, in sky blue and cream with mink detailing, £119

For something a little bit more dressy – that can be relaxed for the office but also works for going out in the evening – I’m totally utterly buying this 100% cashmere number (below0 called Clem, with its sexy pleated silk back.(£149).

Beautiful, no?

The snuggle jumper of the season (in winter’s cool cream, fash followers!) is Coco, below (£139).

Hey Coco

The coolest cabling you’ll see this season

But the tour de force for me is ‘Cleo’, the coat pictured below, a felted 100% wool colour-blocked piece of sartorial gorgeousness in navy and pale grey for £199.

There’s loads of other amazing stuff on the site, including the jumpers I bought last year now reduced to bonkers prices –  my 100% cashmere colour block jumper is now 70% off at £52.50. Yes, seriously – so take a look at the brand here before you buy a whole load of stuff on the high street that you’ll be bored of by half-way through the season.
