School labels for slackers (yep, that’s me)
Hmmm, you’ve reached an older feature - let’s get you up to date! Read our latest Kids features here.
I have always been utterly hopeless as sewing. Zero interest at school – in fact, my mother, who is supremely talented at these things, did my ‘homework’ for me. Even now my children bypass me entirely for any sewing, with my mum is the first call for swimming badges, cub badges, darned sweaters, the lot.
Knowing my limitations (and also knowing not to ask my mum to sew labels on entire school uniforms – that would be a bit cheeky even for me) I decided to go for iron-on labels last year but somehow even they don’t stay on.
So I can barely take the grin off my face with my discovery of Stamptastic – the ultimate solution for pathetic women like me who can’t be bothered to get the sewing kit or iron out. Oh come on, I can’t be the only one!
It’s basically a stamp kit with your child’s name on it that works on everything from fabric and metal to wood and plastic so you can do lunchboxes, pencils, book bags, school uniform, the lot. The stamp is transparent so you can see where you’re positioning it and the ink lasts wash after wash.
I’ve used it on Finn’s uniform which is dark (burgundy and racing green) and it shows up no problem and actually looks a lot neater than traditional labeling. Obviously if you’re stamping black you’ll have a problem Houston, but I guess in that case you’ll just need to print on the inner garment label.
The company is new – basically 3 busy mums with 8 kids between them under the age of 9 so their business is obviously one based on experience. Stamps get cheaper the more you order, so one stamp is £16.99, two are £25.99, three are £32.50, four are £39.50 and if you’re daft enough to have five children, you get a sympathy discount and the fifth stamp is free.
