Wouldn’t you though?
Fancy ruffling some feathers when you walk into the room at the Christmas party this year? I know just the place to buy that killer frock.
Dresses Come True on Great Missenden High St has been quietly ramping up the glamour, sequins, marabou and general frou frou since two foxy local blondes Clare and Donna (below) opened the boutique in May this year, and is now doing a roaring trade in knock out dresses for just about every occasion including the big growth area of prom wear – they’re already ordering ready for next summer’s teenage onslaught.
The latest lines include brands like Little Black Dress, Helen Moore’s furry bits (oh come on, minds out of the gutter people! – capes, gilets, stoles in faux furs from the Devon-based designer), Michaela Louisa and Mascara Collection. It’s more high glamour than high fashion which is no good if you happen to be guest of honour at Porter magazine’s Christmas soirée, or having your party on the sticky floor of the local boozer, but for the rest of us, getting tanked up on prosecco with girlfriends and out for a laugh, Dresses Come True will do nicely thank you.
You can’t buy on the Dresses Come True website which is a bit of a bummer but the shop is staying open late on Thursdays from Nov 1 until Christmas, plus they do appointments on Wednesday evenings, and Sundays. And um, did I mention there’s fizz on tap all Saturday? You can also rent gowns from £90 for 5 days, so you have some serious options.
Great Missenden is superlovely in its own right so if you can’t make it to the boutique in the week, combine your shopping trip with a weekend lunch at The Nag’s Head (reviewed recently on Muddy), a countryside trail around the village, a coffee and cake at the Roald Dahl Museum and you’ve just about pleased everyone in your family. Hey no need to thank me (er, hand me my red sequin and ostrich feather cape, will you?), it’s what I do.
