We’re chomping at the bit this week on the Muddy HQ newsdesk as there’s so much brilliant stuff coming up in our ‘hood in the coming weeks and months – and, as you know, if there’s something chic, cool and stylish going down, we’ll be first to tell you. So put the below in your diaries pronto, and we’ll be back to give you the full lowdown on each one at a later date…
Cliveden spa, opening in May
The five-star gorgeousness of Cliveden, on the Bucks/Berks border, opens its turbo-charged, multi-million pound new spa late May. There will be 7 treatment rooms, new relaxation areas, nail salon and restaurant, and an indoor pool, sauna and steam room to complement the existing outdoor swimming pool. In the summer, you’ll be able to have treatments al fresco around the pool – now, that’s the kind of fabulous decadence of which Muddy heartily approves.
Pub in the Park, Marlow, 19-21 May
Festivals and pubs are two of our favourite things, and celeb chef Tom Kerridge combines the two with Pub In The Park , 19-21 May, at Higginson Park, Marlow. The line-up looks great, including the chefs from his two Marlow pubs, Hand & Flowers and The Coach, alongside music from 10CC, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Fun Lovin’ Criminals. Pre-sale tickets go on sale this Thursday – sign up for the newsletter via the website for an early bird chance to buy.
The Ivy opens, Marlow, May
Legendary London restaurant The Ivy is coming to the sticks! (*thud*) A branch of the celeb-magnet hotspot opens in Marlow in May, adding a dash of glamour to the old Clark’s shoes shop building. There you will find Muddy at her regular table, scoffing the shepherd’s pie signature dish, sharing bons mots with Angelina Jolie and Christopher Biggins. Come and join me if you think your liver is hard enough.
Polpo joins the Westgate Centre
Oxford’s whopper city centre shopping centre, Westgate, will finally reopen on 24 October after a massive £440m renovation project. Three things we’re most excited about? John Lewis, OBVIOUSLY; no more traipsing into London to raid Cos and & Other Stories; and the arrival of stylish mini-chain Polpo, with its Venetian-style sharing plates – it’s just one of 25 new restaurants within the centre.
Michelin star chef in Amersham!
This one’s up and running already so no time to waste – top chef Atul Kochhar, twice Michelin-starred for his London restaurant, Benares, has opened Hawkyns restaurant at The Crown Inn, Amersham. It’s his first foray in modern British cuisine, with some dishes offering an Indian twist, a nod to Atul’s heritage.
