What’s going on?
I’m not saying I’m nosey but seriously I’m all over Bucks & Oxon like a goddam rash.
Cool new café alert
The pretty market town of Thame isn’t short of coffee shops but most of them aren’t exactly chic. So we’ve got high hopes for the Scandi-style The W, on Upper High Street. It doubles as a woodwork homewares showroom, so you can buy a chopping board or bowl alongside your latte. They were only doing cakes and pastries when I whizzed past but apparently a lunch menu is imminent.
More reasons to hit the shops
There are two new openings at the Westgate that might whet your whistle for some retail therapy. Mango arrives late October (worth a peek if you haven’t browsed for a while – the brand is really on it right now), as does Zara, with the second biggest store in the UK no less.
Kevin in the area!
Did you see Grand Designs last week? In case you missed it, Kevin McCloud and the Channel 4 crew rocked up at Dinton Folly in Aylesbury Vale to detail its renovation from wreck to luxe family home. Nosey neighbour? It’s still available to watch here.
Credit cards at the ready
We love a bit of Mint Velvet – their shoes in particular are always strong – so are pleased to hear a new branch is opening on the site of Greens Furnishings in Thame, Oxon. Indie shop fans, worry not – Greens will live on, just in a smaller incarnation.
Lobsters spotted in Wallingford
There’s a new surf’n’turf restaurant in town, with Shellfish Cow opening imminently on the high street in Wallingford, Oxon. They promise the freshest shellfish and aged Scottish steak, washed down with cocktails. We’ll pop some milk thistle, head down to review and report back. It’s a tough job, etc.
