Superflashy newsflash!
We have a summer, people! It's hot, hot, hot and we have even more sizzling news!
News across Bucks & Oxon that’s so smokin’ even a firefighter convention can’t handle it.
Ashmolean Museum Pop-up Bar, Wed 4 to Mon 30 July
Whoo-hoo! For 3 weeks only, you can bask in the sunshine in a deck chair on the gorgeous Ashmolean roof top lawn and enjoy a drink or two (or if you’re me, three) from the summer pop-up bar. No need to dine, just wine! Or try the new Ashmolean gin before wobbling down the stairs to America’s Cool Modernism exhibition (ends July 22).
The Swan restaurant re-opens, Tetsworth, from Sun 1 July
One of favourite local restaurants, The Swan at Tetsworth (attached to the antiques centre) recently suffered a terrible fire. But lo! From the ashes a jolly good party rises. There’s a celebration on Saturday followed by the official opening once more from Sunday. Expect exquisite French fine dining with superb maitre d’ ing, and a good rummage through the furniture, jewellery and vintage goodies for your digestif.
Café Wolseley at Bicester Village
Another reason to make the pilgrimage to the holy retail land of Bicester Village. Renowned restaurateurs Corbin & King are venturing out of London for the first time with Café Wolseley, a rural outpost of The Wolseley in the capital. The all day menu in European grand-café style is also available to take away, plus there’s a retail collection – think homewares like candles, crystal glassware and antique silver, along with piggy essentials like shortbread, chocolate truffles and loose-leaf teas.
New pub alert!
Previously The Sweet Olive, The Chequers gastro pub is due to reopen imminently with a new pub manager. The pub is part of the same group as Berks’ Muddy Awards Winner 2017 The Bladbone in Bucklebury and The Bird in Hand in Sonning, so expect magical things on the food front. We’re curently squatting on the porch so as soon as it opens we’ll be straight on the blower to let you know.
