Back to Things to Do

Superflashy newsflash!

Movers, groovers, gossipers (er, that’s us) and loads of new goings on across Bucks & Oxon you should know about, all right here.

All the hottest gossip across the ‘shire, truffled out, just for you. Shall we?

Vegan eats

Veganuary is officially taking over every restaurant, with every man and his dog launching a new vegan menu. Westgate Oxford is stuffed with options, including Pho, Cinnamon Kitchen and The Alchemist, and even Hotel Chocolat are upping their game with their new Nutmilk chocolate (ideal if you, like me, would rather eat dirt than dark chocolate). Outside of the city centre, The Churchill Arms are holding a vegan three-course feast on 29th January, and the menu already has our mouth watering.

Those in Bucks needn’t feel left out, with Wagamama’s bonkers vegan ‘tuna’ (which is actually made with dehydrated and seared watermelon, FYI) is appearing in the Milton Keynes branch, as well as TGI Friday’s watermelon steak and Carluccio’s new Cucina Verde options (pictured). If you’re after something slightly more refined than, uh, cooked watermelon, then Cliveden are offering a 7-course vegan tasting menu, or you can tuck into a vegan à la carte menu at Stoke Place.

New hot yoga studio in Amersham

Speaking of the January health kick, a new hot yoga studio is opening in Amersham this month for Bucks-based gym bunnies. New studio Hot4Yoga is due to open its doors for classes on 20 January – and seeing as the room is heated to 40 degrees during classes, it’s certainly one way to escape this cold January weather!

Harry Potter shop to open in Oxford?

Magical happenings in Cornmarket Street – a shop named House of Wizard looks set to move in to one of the 15th century timber-framed buildings (which, at last count, makes it the third Harry Potter shop selling merch in the centre of Oxford). Don’t shoot your spells too soon, Potter fans – there’s no confirmed open date yet.

Eat and drink in Milton Keynes

New Instagram favourite Blossom Room in Milton Keynes opened their new kitchen on Friday, which means you can now enjoy a selection of Asian-inspired small plates and platters while gawping at the incredible cherry blossom ceiling (created by local boy Luke McDonnell, director of Stony Stratford Gallery). The bar is also due to launch cocktail masterclasses and an afternoon tea menu in 2020, so watch this space.

Adding to the list of MK boozers is Brewery Tap House and Bottle Swap from the team at Bucks Star Brewery. The project hit its crowdfunding goal this weekend and is due to open early this year opposite the existing Brewery in Stonebridge, which means you’ll be able to relax and enjoy an organic beer and a few local delicacies after your Brewery Tour. We’ll keep you posted on launch dates.

And finally….

Big high five to these local heroes! Oxford girl Florence Pugh is having a hell of a month, with a US Vogue cover and both Oscar and BAFTA nominations for her turn in Little Women. Not bad for 24. We’re looking forward to seeing her alongside Scarlett Johansson in new Marvel hit Black Widow in May this year.

Abingdon-based indie rockers Lacuna Common made NME’s list of 100 essential artists for 2020 last week, so you’ll want to snap up tickets to see them at The Wheatsheaf Oxford on 12th February ASAP.
