Where to head for your creativity fix

Well well! There's a pop-up artisan studio at High Wycombe's Eden Shopping Centre from 26-27 March, offering gorgeous activities like candle making and calligraphy. Fancy it much? Here's what you need to know for a day's crafting, shopping and scoffing.

Another weekend flown by with not so much as a molecule of me-time? There’s only one solution: get it in the diary and nail down a much-needed day of creativity, shopping, indulgence, or frankly all of the above and Eden Shopping Centre in High Wycombe is a brilliant option for those who want to put ‘moi’ first on the weekend of 26-27 March.

Timed perfectly for Mother’s day, it’s running creative workshops alongside it’s usual retail, food and entertainment. I’ve done the hard work for you and picked out the highlights according to your needs – just scroll down, pick your type, book it, and block out that diary.

Exercise your creative alter ego at Eden Shopping Centre’s new Scandi-inspired Artisan Studio, which is offering a veritable smorgasbord of creative workshops over the weekend 26-27 March including a session on how to create the ever Pinterest-able dried flower hoop, a modern calligraphy workshop, a floral centre piece workshop, and – a new one for us – candle painting. It’s basically a heavenly two hours with family or mates or even more indulgent – solo – and you can top or tail it with retail therapy. Family: if you’re reading, that’s my Mother’s Day sorted.

If the creative process is too much pressure for you, then perhaps something absorbing, but more process-driven is what you’ve after, like the fragrant and gentile art of candle-making, in a workshop with The London Refinery, or a succulent terrarium masterclass (trust us, it’s therapeutic and you’ll make something pretty). The dreamy couple of hours at all the Eden Shopping Centre workshops come accompanied by light refreshments, a goodie bag and your creation to take home and #humblebrag about. Check out the Artisan Studio website for the full listing of classes and how to book (cost is £17.50 plus booking fee per workshop).

Muddy loves this Limited Edition Zara robe (£59.99)

Spring is in the air so I’m casting off my grey cashmere joggers in favour of citrus knits and spring nail polish. This year I want an injection of fresh, riotous fun in my wardrobe, so the best gift for me? An afternoon of pure, unadulterated shopping. Zara is my Eden Shopping Centre go-to, but I’d I’ll also browse the high end brands at House of Fraser (and skirt by the Brow Bar) then finish by checking out the Autograph range at M&S (it’s having some good press with the fashion eds this season).

Breakfast at Bill’s

You can’t shop without sustenance – it’s medically proven (er, sort of). I’ll have the Mediterranean Breakfast at Bill’s thanks, with flatbread dipped in oozy eggs, labneh and feta (followed by a cheeky pancake dessert), or if it’s lunch with friends, we’ll head to Wagamama and order miso-glazed cod with ramen noodles and one of the zingy juices. If it’s Mother’s day for me, or my Mum, it’s got to be the afternoon tea at Patisserie Valerie – miniature patisseries, scones, sandwiches and endless Earl Grey.

For Mums or mates who don’t fit the shop/foodie/crafty mould, or are just looking for something a bit different there’s bowling at Hollywood Bowl, movies at Cineworld or the more quirky… there’s History of Video Games, which is a three-hour slot to play over 100 games unlimited including retro arcades, consoles, and retro computers (take your kids and let them laugh at you). And before I lose you, did I mention there’s Pac-Man and Space Invaders? Ready Player 1?
