5 reasons to head to Westgate
Right now we're embracing any chance to feel semi-normal again - which in our books means eating, drinking, and shopping. Here's why you should join us at Westgate Oxford (in matching face masks, naturally).
Okay, so I appreciate going from being a practical hermit to planning a jaunt at Oxford’s largest shopping centre might feel like slight whiplash, but having been to see the sights for myself last weekend I can report that it’s a lovely shopping experience – clean, open air, and it’s quiet. Here are five things to look forward to if you make it Westgate way this week.
Dine al fresco
The Roof Terrace has always been one of our favourite spots at Westgate, but now it’s pulling double duty with its open air dining options. The always-fabulous Victor’s is open for dining (we’ll be nabbing a spot on the terrace, above), as is Sticks’n’Sushi, The Breakfast Club, The Alchemist and Mowgli’s. Don’t see your favourite here? Keep an eye on the opening times to see if it has an opening date.
Or, you know, just get takeaway
If you’re more of a food-on-the-go gal, then good news – Westgate Social Street Food is open and raring to go. Grab a bite to eat from Tommi’s Burger Joint, Ned’s Noodle Bar, The Mac Factory, or Benito’s Hat and then eat while you walk (we love a multitasker) or take a seat at the open area in front of John Lewis. Just remember to grab napkins and take hand sanitiser!
Book an outdoor workout
Who says shopping isn’t good for you? Buzz Gym finally has a reopening date of Sat 25 July (hooray!), but in the meantime they’re running Outdoor Bootcamp sessions on the Roof Terrace for members. Classes take place on Mondays, Wednesday and Friday, and must be pre-booked via the Buzz Gym app or on the Members section of their website.
Hit the sales
Take advantage of the relative calm at Westgate right now and scoop up some designer threads for a snip – get there early and you’ve a good chance of being front of queue. Hugo BOSS and GANT both have summer sales on at the moment, and Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger have 25% discounts for NHS workers. Check the opening times before planning your shopping trip to see what else is open.
Keep the kids entertained
Been pulling your hair out trying to keep the offspring busy in lockdown? Try locking them in a room! We jest (sort of). Escape Hunt has re-opened its doors, which means you can keep littlies aged 8 and up entertained for at least an hour with its escape rooms. Meanwhile, we have our fingers crossed that Curzon will be re-opening at the end of month, and Junkyard Golf will be open on week days for under 18s from 3 August.
Things are changing all the time – we’re super on it (of course!) but before you head in, it’s worth checking in with the Westgate website for all the latest updates and opening hours.
