<p>Move over Ascot and Wimbledon &#8211; <a aria-label="Feast over Flame (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.facebook.com/feastevents/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Feast Over Flame</a> has become <em>the</em> social highlight for the Muddy Season (stilettos at the ready, darling!). Idyllic settings, fabulous food, great vibe and sassy service all combine to create a seriously memorable experience to share with family or friends. </p>



<p>Putting on an alfresco event and nailing the high quality cooking and atmosphere isn&#8217;t easy, but with founders Neal and Sarah Dove&#8217;s years of experience hosting events at Henley Regatta and the Wormsley Estate, plus stints  honing their craft at The Lanesborough, The Compleat Angler and Cliveden, no less, you know you&#8217;re in good hands.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-arrival">THE ARRIVAL</h2>

<p>Ahoy there! You&#8217;ll start your Feast over Flame experience messing about the river with a glass of something cold and wet (hopefully not your date). Book your ticket, choose a departure time and a boat will glide up to the quayside to whisk you up river. Enjoy you first drink of the day/evening (unless you got carried away while waiting on the quayside) nibble on a canapé or two and, after mingling with the ducks and the rowers, you&#8217;ll arrive at the dreamy meadow location, which takes us to:  </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">THE SETTING</h2>

<p>Check out the view! Step off the boat and you&#8217;ll arrive on the jetty where another suited FoF staffer will welcome you (it&#8217;s all black ties and radio mikes – everso VIP). Step through the greenery and a lush meadow opens out in front of you with a clear-sided marquee, strewn with flowers and twinkly lights and decked with fire pits and tables laid with pretty linens, glasses and crockery. It&#8217;s a dreamy setting spend a delicious few hours of serious indulgence.</p>

<p>Hungry? You&#8217;re in for a treat. Start with freshly baked meadow herb bread with wild garlic butter before moving onto a starter of whipped goats curd, grilled figs, heritage tomatoes, and local honey with bee pollen and poached Wye Valley asparagus, hot smoked salmon, hollandaise and truffle (switching in an &#8216;aubergine scallop&#8217; for veggies). A little amuse-bouche of scotch quails egg or pea and broad bean scotch egg follows, then it&#8217;s the time for the main event &#8211; hay-baked best end of spring lamb, fennel, textures of English peas, buttered and herbed Jersey Royals, with drizzle of mint jus. Veggies are served a pithivier of spinach, ricotta and pine nuts &#8211; so no missing out here! Finish the meal with rhubarb and cherry pavlova, poached and griddled new season rhubarb and vanilla cream, THEN miniature chocolate plant pot with edible stones and soil.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s cooked fresh! Forget platters of chicken supreme languishing under heat lamps a la mass catering of old. For starters this is a bijoux event with only a handful of tables and a staggered arrival time so everything is cooked just before it&#8217;s eaten, much of it on the Big Green Egg BBQ at the end of each table by a dapper staff member who&#8217;s a dab hand with the tongs.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">RAIN WON&#8217;T STOP PLAY</h2>

<p>Alfresco dining in May sounds like the brainchild of someone with an oversized pair of pink shades, but these guys really have thought of everything. If the English weather doesn&#8217;t play ball, the boat sides are covered, the marquee has clear sides and roof so you&#8217;re protected from the elements without spoiling the view, and there are fire pits for extra warmth and s&#8217;mores and hot chocolate to finish off the meal and warm your cockles. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">TAKE THE KIDS</h2>

<p>Childcare too tricky to navigate or want them to share in the fun? Then you can take kids along to the daytime sittings. There&#8217;s a dedicated kids menu &#8211; with crudities, mini scotch egg, a half portion of the grown ups lamb main course or a burger with fries then the absolute winner &#8211; two puds! They get the same as the grown-ups and arguably a third pud when the s&#8217;mores come out. And as for what to do &#8211; they&#8217;re in their very own Arthur Ransome adventure, escaping to a secret meadow by boat. What&#8217;s not to love?</p>

<p>After your welcome drink onboard the boat transfer you can choose from a massive menu of local draught beer, wine, spirits and hand-crafted cocktails (because we don&#8217;t come to Marlow to drink pre-mixed darrrling!). There&#8217;s also tea, coffee, soft drinks, still and sparkling available all day. That should keep everyone happy.</p>
