Art-house cinema, with pub incentives – genius!
Hmmm, you’ve reached an older feature - let’s get you up to date! Read our latest Film & TV features here.
Just loving the idea of Haddenham’s World Cinema Club, set to open its doors on April 5th at the Rose & Thistle pub (affectionately known in the vilage as the RAT, but don’t hold that against it).
Held in the meeting room at the back of the pub, it’s probably going to be a bit rough and ready. And, of course, the films are classics rather than new releases.
BUT it does have a couple of tricks up its sleeve. Firstly, it’s FREE! Just rock up on the night. Secondly it’s bijou – only 30 seats for the taking which I rather like. Thirdly, you can order popcorn, drinks and pub treats while it’s going on (I think there may be some deals on bottles of wine etc but don’t hold me to it). And finally, most importantly, the programme has been chosen with care – films include Almodovar’s All About My Mother and Walter Salles’ Central Station – arty enough to satisfy those who care, but entertaining for those of us who just like great movies.
The Club opens next Thursday with – could it be anything else? – Cinema Paradiso. Perfecto.
