The kitschest toilet in the Shires?

Hmmm, you’ve reached an older feature - let’s get you up to date! Read our latest Hair and beauty features here.

I can’t seem to help myself. I’m drawn to toilets. Stayed in an airstream caravan last month – and took a photo of the loos. Last week, I found myself struck by the wallpaper in the bathroom of a local cafe – took a picture. Now I’ve found surely the kitschest, wonderfully OTT loo in the whole of Oxfordshire, thanks to the rather lovely hair salon Mary Handy in Wallingford, and here it is (above and below) in all its glory.

In case you think this post is subtitled ‘Toilets I have known’ I should also point out that the salon, which opened a few months back, also has the most charismatic owner I’ve come across for years. Mary Handy can talk the leg off a donkey (I don’t want to stereotype but she is Irish!), is super kid-friendly, and also happens to be handy with a pair of scissors and the Aveda hair dye (it’s an affiliated salon).

Shiny, faux-Franco-chandeliery decadence- love it! Because frankly there’s not enough of it in my life.

Worth a go if you’re in the mood to try out a new hairdresser’s, or just want some P&Q – on Classical Wednesdays there’s no computers or phones allowed, just a spot of Mozart and a hand massage to accompany your visit. Bliss.

Mary Handy hair salon, 80 High St, Wallingford [tip: pay & display in Waitrose ].  Tel: 01491 598323. www.maryhandy.co.uk.

PS Anyone have a better bathroom picture than that – within taste perameters! – let’s be having you.

Ha! Yes, I suppose it is quite Crazy Bear isn’t it. I’m all for a bit of OTT. Have you ever been to Les Trois Garcons in London? Now that’s a bonkers interior. x
