The Muddy Christmas party (oh dear…)

Hmmm, you’ve reached an older feature - let’s get you up to date! Read our latest Parties features here.

And so it came to pass that five women who should know better descended on The Three Pigeons pub in Milton Common for the official Muddy Christmas lunch and got sizzle-sozzled sozzled over the period of, um, well who’s counting how many hours? Oh dear….

I wasn’t expecting The Three Pigeons to look as it did actually –  it’s had a bit of a move-around and it looks very cool. The bar has shifted to the next room, creating a space for large parties in the main bit, and the quirk factor has been upped substantially by a row of claw baths that only narrowly avoided having an impromptu Muddy photoshoot – it seemed like a great idea at the time to have four of us in the baths and one taking the photo.  Forgot to do it in the end, like most drunk brilliant ideas…

We had the pre-booked Christmas lunch and it was really fantastic, despite the fact that I got the entire order wrong the night before when I emailed it through. I had creamy parsnip soup for entrée which was delicious, served with some bread that was all gnarly and nobbly and totally amazing (alas no pics, I scoffed before remembering I should have taken a photo first *sigh*).

The I went for the goose because I’ve never had it before with the whole sprouts-tatties-parsnips thing going on. I didn’t realise goose was such a dark meat, I always imagined it to be like chicken or turkey, but I loved it.

Then it was so time for a cinnamon panna cotta with an orange compote, a wobbly little flirt of a dessert.

Christmas lunch at The Three Pigeons is £22.50 for two courses, £26.50 for three and the menu is small but well-chosen. Good value I think, so if you’re yet to organise your Christmas lunchie, or just to try somewhere different and quirky with great food, I’d recommend it.
