Watch this: the M&S Christmas ad. It’s fun!

Hmmm, you’ve reached an older feature - let’s get you up to date! Read our latest features here.

I love this time of year, when the major stores unveil their multi-million pound Christmas  campaigns on TV and we all become overnight advertising experts.

I’m the worst offender and get quite put out when a substandard or irritating ad gets put on telly. I loathed the cheesy M&S summer ads in 2011 – remember the ones with Myleen Klass and friends in the countryside with the grandpa who fell asleep and a a clutch of so-cute-it-grated children? Ah. Maybe I should just get out more.

It’s become quite a battle now, to have the best Christmas ad, it matters like ‘Who’s going to be Christmas number One?’ used to matter. John Lewis usually leads the charge, but but M&S is snapping at its heels with this quirky, clever idea just released today.

I have these undies! I must say Mr Muddy is always remarking on the uncanny similarity between me and Rosie W. Um, not.

I have these undies! Funnily enough Mr Muddy is always remarking on the uncanny similarity between me and Rosie HW. Um, not.

It’s two and a half minutes long (so I’m guessing that’s the whole ad break) and stars Rosie Huntington Whitley with her kit off quite a lot, supermodel hotty David Gandy (whose acting makes Rosie W look like Meryl Streep), with rent-an-eccentric Helena Bonham Carter making a cameo appearance.
