Another week of lockdown and another brilliant bunch of local Bucks & Oxon businesses to support. Here's how you can help the indies you love.
Despite COVID-19 is disrupting all of our lives, many of our brilliant local businesses are soldiering on, but they need our help. Loads of Bucks & Oxon businesses are offering new services and innovative new ways to navigate this strange time and I’m continuing to shout out as much as possible because, well, every little helps right?

Chiltern Open Air Museum is taking its educational resources online (the museum has a great learning program for schools) with 17 activities based on the museum’s historic buildings including research projects from learning the Runic Futhork Alphabet to making an Anglo Saxon brooch.
Fancy a gin cruise once the dust settles? Erm, no brainer! Mr Hobbs Gin in Henley is offering ‘buy now, use within 12 months’ vouchers, plus booking now will give you a discounted price. The cruise includes a five course gin tasting menu and beautiful meander down the River Thames.
Sustainable fish bar and grill, Lussmans‘, newest outpost opened in Oxford just before lockdown (it’s gorgeous, we scoped it out on opening night). Seeing as we can’t book a table right now the Herts restaurants are offering pre-prepared meals, veg boxes, fresh bread, cheese, fish, coffee and booze along with takeaway meals. Hop just over the border to click and collect.
Need help with homeschooling? New Princes Risborough venture Student Nannies is an online service pairing university students with kids for one-to-one learning sessions. All the core subjects are on offer, plus loads more from art and drama to singing to zoology and astrophysics.
Marlow-based Cross Stream Distillery is still supplying the goods, offering free delivery of its delicious gin to anywhere in the UK, plus contact free local delivery within a 10 mile radius of Marlow.
It’s not often that you get to see works from the art world’s top dogs in rural Oxfordshire, which is why we’re big fans of Dantzig, the Muddy Award-winning gallery in Woodstock. You can’t visit right now, but the gallery is offering free delivery to the UK mainland.
Dental emergency? Local doc and dentist Vish Anand (of Oxford Dental & Aesthetics Ltd) to the rescue with his new online face-to-face dental service. Mention ‘Muddy Stilettos’ when booking online to receive 20% off your dental bill.
Muddy HQ neighbours The Sun, in Wheatley, are offering takeaway roast dinners (yum), along with new Pub in a Box deliveries. The packages include two drinks of your choice, plus pub snacks (including homemade pork scratchings and spicy tortilla chips) and a mini pub quiz. Boxes are super reasonable at £13. Henley-based Michelin trained pro chef Simon McKenzie has loads of tasty options available to buy from his online store including luxury ready meals, fresh fruit, veg, meat, DIY fine dining kits and ready-made afternoon tea. Pinkies poised?
Creation Theatre has extended its run of The Tempest – you can watch an interactive screening of the show performed live over Zoom. Spaces are limited so get tickets pronto if you fancy it as it’s bound to be brilliant (22 – 25 Apr).
Newly refurbished The Black Boy Oxford has fresh food available for delivery on its online shop (there’s takeaway too). There’s also new pizza making kits for kids – kits include ingredients to make two pizzas.
Great Missenden-based biscuit makers Teacups and Tandems has launched a new online store where you can purchase pretty sweet treats, biscuit decorating kits and thank you boxes for key workers. They’re also still taking commissions.
Two AA Rosette pub The White Horse in King Sutton (we love) is offering takeaway meal for two boxes – for £45 you’ll each get a main, side, dessert, plus a bottle of wine to share. Meals are finished off at home with instructions from Head Chef Hendrik.
Burford-based Upton Smokery is open as usual with fresh products and smoked fish and meat. There’s a safe pick up point outside the shop, plus there’s a free local delivery service for those self isolating within a 5 – 10 mile radius.
In these unprecedented times, hospitals are struggling to find places for the elderly and residential nursing homes are turning away elderly patients being discharged from hospital. Amersham-based Ashridge Home Care has teamed up with the Live-In Care Hub and several other care providers to launch a new campaign to recruit live-in careers.
Luxe beauty salons Cedar Therapy (with locations in Chippy, Deddington, Shipston-on-Stour and Bloxham) are offering a buy one product, get the next half price deal for April. Muddy fave and comedy hotspot The Potters Arms, in Amersham, are offering a new takeaway menu from Friday, with profits being donated to the NHS.
