5 of the best… festive boozy buys

Time to stock up your fridges and cellars! Whether you're buying for others or yourself (hey, you deserve it), you can't go wrong with these five divine drinks.

Never mind buying presents, the most festive fun comes from getting the Christmas booze in, I reckon. Here are Muddy we’re huge fans of Slurp, the independent Banbury-based wine merchants (it’s all available online too) so we’ve picked our five festive favourite tipples, ideal gifts for the boozehounds in your life or for stocking up your own drinks cabinet. Chin chin!

Best for the cool kids

Anyone who’s anyone drinks Whispering Rosé, doncha know? It’s the world’s most popular pink drink and sold in Soho House, and Chateau Marmont among other international hotel hotspots. Word to the wise: wine experts say it’s perfectly fine to drink it in the winter and who are we to disagree? Go fill your boots with the magnum! £46.95

Best for buying British

Cassis is usually a French aperitif but this version is made from blackcurrants grown in Herefordshire. Make like it’s 1978 and whip yourself up a retro Kir Royal pronto.  £18.95

Best for sexing up the Christmas tree

Gin baubles? Now you’re talking! These six coloured balls are filled with a shot of Pickering’s from Scotland. Decorating the tree just got a lot more fun.  £29.95

Best for fizz fans

Double helpings for Champagne fans here – one to drink and one to eat. I might share a glass of Charles Mignon Premium Reserve Champagne Brut NV with you but the Belflair chocolates are all mine I’m afraid.  £37.95

Best for gin lovers seeking something different

It takes an unusual gin to stop me in my tracks but these two did just that. Hapusa Himalayan Dry Gin (42.95) is hand-crafted in India and includes botanicals from the pine forests of Himalayas – maybe one to serve with your Boxing Day turkey curry? And, oh, bring us some figgy pudding! In this case, in gin form – Tarquin’s Figgy Pudding Gin (£34.95) is officially my new favourite digestif. YUM.
