<p>For a tiny little village in the Chiltern Hills, pretty Turville has made its mark. It&#8217;s the setting for <em>The Vicar of Dibley</em>, which tells you everything you need to know about its rural idyll creds. It&#8217;s also home to the pond and windmill that featured in <em>Chitty Chitty Bang Bang</em> and it was across Turville&#8217;s hillsides that Villanelle embarked on a murderous chase in <em>Killing Eve</em>. Clearly a favourite of location scouts, the village has also featured in <em>101 Dalmatians</em>, <em>Goodnight Mr Tom</em> and <em>Pride and Prejudice</em>, as well as having its own smattering of celeb residents (see below for the juicy details).<a href="https://goo.gl/fcXA5S"></a></p>

<p>The village pub, <a href="https://www.thebullandbutcher.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Bull &amp; Butcher</a>, is a trad timber-framed beauty with two open fires, local real ales and a dog-friendly policy. Pop in for a drink but book ahead if you want to bag a table for a meal for its classic pub grub &#8211; fish and chips, pies, burgers and steak with a few veggie options.</p>



<p>A couple of minutes down the road is&nbsp;<a href="https://www.chequersfingest.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Chequers Inn</a>&nbsp;at Fingest, a red brick Brakspear pub/restaurant with a good rep for its freshly cooked food and particularly for its Sunday lunches. At £28 for two courses or £34 for three, the starters tend towards the Med with Euro classics like calamari, gazpacho and burrata, while the mains are roasts (beef, chicken and aubergine for the veggies among us), sole from the South Coast, a proper burger or a veg risotto.</p>



<p>If it&#8217;s something more laid-back you&#8217;re after, <a href="https://www.thebarnatturvilleheath.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Barn</a> at Turville Heath, a little hamlet up the road, is as rustic as they come. Only accessible on foot, bike or horse and only open on weekends and bank holidays, it&#8217;s a converted barn which does a delicious line in homemade burgers, including veggie and vegan, plus breakfast baps, pizza, and homemade soup and goulash.</p>

<p>This is a quiet rural village so your credit card won&#8217;t feel the burn here, though the village does boast a gorgeous art space, <a href="https://www.turvillestudios.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Turville Studios</a>. The contemporary space hosts six artists and is open on the first Sunday of every month. Your closest groceries aren&#8217;t far away at the fabulous <a href="https://www.laceysfamilyfarm.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Laceys Family Farm Shop</a>, a mile down the road. Family-run farm shops don&#8217;t come better than this, and we&#8217;re so sure that we crowned Laceys the <a href="https://bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/awards/winners/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">best farmshop / deli</a><a href="https://bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/awards/winners/"> in Bucks &amp; Oxon</a> this year. It sells seasonal fruit and veg, meat, bread and pantry and deli goodies as well as the family&#8217;s gorgeous dairy products including a gold top that&#8217;ll turn your porridge heavenly. Your nearest supermarkets are in Marlow (16 mins), or head to the huge Waitrose at Handy Cross just outside High Wycombe.</p>

<p>Nearby Henley-on-Thames happens to be the UK rowing capital, so fitness is in the water there. Olympic rower Toby Garbett&#8217;s <a href="https://tggymwellness.com/">TG Gym Wellness</a> has great facilities (and a cracking café), or head to Marlow&#8217;s exclusive <a href="https://themarlowclub.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Marlow Club</a> for all the fitness classes and personal training you could ever need. Your closest hairdresser is Amitys in Bolter End, but Marlow&#8217;s your best bet for a range of top salons &#8211; <a href="https://www.haringtons.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Harington&#8217;s</a>, <a href="https://www.doratamarlow.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dorata</a> and <a href="https://www.thechapel.co.uk/marlow-hairdressers" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Chapel</a> are all in the town centre. <a aria-label="Elements (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.elementshenley.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Elements</a> in Henley is a Muddy favourite too. There&#8217;s no absence of beauty and aesthetic clinics for the well-heeled either, including <a href="http://alchemybyeffectdoctors.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Alchemy by EffectDoctors</a> in Henley, which offers diagnostic blood tests, plus IV drips and booster shots if you&#8217;ve really overdone it at the festival, or the newly opened <a href="https://soma-house.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Soma House</a> clinic on the edge of High Wycombe, which offers cutting-edge treatments like cryotherapy and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-community">COMMUNITY</h2>



<p>The village hall in nearby Northend hosts community events for the whole parish and can be hired by residents for parties (plus there&#8217;s an annual Christmas bash for locals). It also runs weekly classes, so head here for yoga, pilates, table tennis or the annual Lent Lunch.</p>

<p>Cobstone Windmill is the Turville icon that is the star of screen, plus it makes a great walk with stunning Chilterns views rewarding you for puffing your way to the top. Dig out your dog collar and take a peek inside the village&#8217;s St Mary the Virgin Church, aka St Barnabus in <em>The Vicar of Dibley</em>. There are walks galore at the nearby <a href="https://www.bbowt.org.uk/nature-reserves/warburg-nature-reserve" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Warburg Nature Reserve</a>, with woodland that will delight littlies and four-legged pals (who need to stay on a lead), as well as a wildlife trail and bird hides. </p>



<p>Stately home <a href="https://www.stonor.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Stonor</a>, four miles away, is a gift that keeps giving, with events throughout the year including a vintage car rally, shopping fairs, jousting day and Proms concert. It also has a superb adventure playground and pizza and coffee vans, and has started opening on ad hoc evenings for grown up alfresco dining. Meanwhile, the hugely popular <a href="https://www.chilternvalley.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Chiltern Valley Winery &amp; Brewery</a> is less than three miles away (so no-one has to be designated driver!) and offers tours and tastings as well as hosting a cookery school and wine shop.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">CULTURE</h2>



<p>You&#8217;re pretty much equidistant from Henley, Marlow and High Wycombe in Turville, each of which have a buzzing cultural scene. Henley hosts its annual <a href="https://www.henleyliteraryfestival.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">literary festival</a>, the black tie riverside Henley Festival and a varied programme at the <a href="https://kentontheatre.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kenton Theatre</a>, plus you can explore local history at the town&#8217;s <a href="https://rrm.co.uk/">River &amp; Rowing Museum</a>. There&#8217;s an <a href="https://www.everymancinema.com/venues-list/g01rl-everyman-marlow/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Everyman Cinema</a> in Marlow, offering new releases, indies and old classics in sophisticated surroundings. Both towns also have a clutch of art galleries if you like a mooch. Meanwhile, over in High Wycombe, <a href="https://wycombeswan.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Wycombe Swan</a> offers a range of mainstream pantos to comedians and magic shows. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-average-house-prices">AVERAGE HOUSE PRICES</h2>



<p>The average property price in Turville is skewed by the paucity of houses and a few whoppers so isn&#8217;t always a great guide, but it currently sits at £1.017m. You can get something a little more grounded in reality in villages such as Skirmett and Frieth where there&#8217;s a few more detached and semi-detached family home.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">NURSERIES</h2>



<p>Turville families are lucky enough to have their own little nursery and pre-school right in the village. <a href="https://www.turvilleschool.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Turville Forest School &amp; Nursery</a> is open year round, 7.30am – 6pm, and takes babies from three months, with an Ofsted Good rating. It has three rooms, but goes with a family feel so will have activities and meals in mixed age-groups throughout the year.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">SCHOOLS</h2>



<p><a href="https://www.ibstoneschool.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ibstone C of E Primary</a> is the nearest state school to Turville and is rated Good by Ofsted, and for secondary the closest is the <a href="https://www.cressex.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cressex Community School</a> on the edge of High Wycombe. There&#8217;s also the grammars around the town – <a href="https://www.rgshw.com/">Royal Grammar School</a>, <a href="https://www.jhgs.bucks.sch.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">John Hampden</a> and <a href="https://www.whs.bucks.sch.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wycombe High</a> in High Wycombe and <a href="https://www.swbgs.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sir William Borlase&#8217;s</a> in Marlow.</p>



<p>Alongside those, there&#8217;s a number of top independents including the nurturing and highly sought-after co-ed preps <a href="https://bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/muddy-good-schools-guide/rupert-house-school-review-henley-oxfordshire/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Rupert House</a> and <a href="https://bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/st-marys-prep/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">St Mary&#8217;s</a> in Henley. Just beyond Henley there&#8217;s <a href="https://bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/shiplake-college/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Shiplake College</a>, which has a gorgeous riverside location and has just started taking girls from Y7. In Wycombe, there&#8217;s the excellent girls&#8217; day and boarding prep school, <a href="https://bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/godstowe-school-high-wycombe-review/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Godstowe</a>, and the well-respected girls&#8217; senior school, <a href="https://bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/wycombe-abbey/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wycombe Abbey</a>, with its glittering facilities and strong academic rep. Further north, there&#8217;s private all-girls secondary <a href="https://bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/pipers-corner-chilterns/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Piper&#8217;s Corner</a> in an idyllic Chilterns location. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p>This area is a bit of a celeb magnet. Tom Hollander and Orlando Bloom own houses in the area and &#8211; hush, hush – they&#8217;ve been seen hanging out at the Five Horseshoes in Maidensgrove, alongside ACDC&#8217;s Brian Johnson.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>Turville is close to Junction 5 on the M40 and only 40 miles from London by car. The nearest train stations are at Henley, Marlow, High Wycombe and Princes Risborough, which all get into London Paddington or Marylebone in less than hour. Season tickets hover at around £5,000 depending on which station you&#8217;re going from (High Wycombe is cheapest and fastest).</p>
