Live in Whiteleaf and you&#8217;ll have some of the most beautiful walks in Buckinghamshire on your door-step, but culture, shopping and great schools are all easily accessible too.</p>

<p>The village pub is the picturesque Red Lion, a 17th century pub which has been family-owned for 24 years. You&#8217;re within walking distance of <a href="https://ploughatcadsden.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Plough at Cadsden</a> too – the only pub that actually stands on The Ridgeway, an ancient track described as Britain&#8217;s oldest road. Slightly further afield, in Prestwood, there&#8217;s <a href="https://www.thepolecatinn.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Polecat Inn</a>: a swanky glass-fronted restaurant with an open theatre-style kitchen and wood-fired pizza oven. Or great options in Great Missenden include the charming sixteenth century pub <a href="https://www.crosskeysgreatmissenden.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Cross Keys </a>and <a href="https://nagsheadbucks.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Nags Head</a>, with its gorgeous garden at the back. We’re also fans of The Barn Kitchen at&nbsp;<a href="https://www.peterleymanorfarm.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Peterley Manor Farm</a>, a 15 minute drive, which has more than a passing nod to Soho Farmhouse’s chic vibe. Fancy a curry? <a href="https://radhunilounge.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Radhuni Lounge</a> in Princes Risborough has just won the 2024 Asian Restaurant &amp; Takeaway Awards (ARTA) for South Central Restaurant of the Year!</p>

<p>Whiteleaf is adjacent to Monks Risborough for day-to-day shopping, but for fresh, seasonal produce you&#8217;re surrounded by farm shops on this neck of the woods. There&#8217;s <a href="https://www.orchardviewfarm.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Orchard View Farm</a> (which has a café affectionately called The Trough, a butcher and a glampsite), or the award-winning farm shop at <a href="https://peterleymanorfarm.co.uk/farm-shop/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Peterley Manor Farm</a>, stocked with seasonal produce from more than 100 high-quality suppliers. For gifts and homewares, there&#8217;s <a href="https://www.littlewrencollections.co/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Little Wren Co</a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href="https://bigskygtmissenden.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Big Sky</a>, both on Great Missenden high street. There’s also a fab online vintage online store run out of Great Missenden called&nbsp;<a href="https://www.instagram.com/strakervintage/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Straker Vintage</a>, or the Aladdin&#8217;s cave of antiques at <a href="https://tootells.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tootell&#8217;s Fine Furniture and Interiors</a>. Tootell&#8217;s is appointment only so you can browse the paintings, ceramics and furniture in peace.</p>

<p>Blow off the cobwebs by pulling on your wellies and walking the stunning scenery along The Ridgeway and the Icknield Way – the <a href="https://www.greatbritishbucketlist.com/whiteleaf-to-chequers-walk/">Whiteleaf Cross to Chequers circular</a> is one of the best walks in Bucks. For more mindful eco-therapy, head to the two adjacent nature reserves at <a href="https://chilternsociety.org.uk/our-sites/whiteleaf-hill/">Whiteleaf Hill and Brush Hill</a> – the views are spectacular and they&#8217;re the starting point for more lovely walks. The Whiteleaf Dental Practice is in Monks Risborough (go figure), and beauty-wise, <a href="https://elliethomasaesthetics.co.uk/">Ellie Thomas Aesthetics and Skincare</a> is in nearby Princes Risborough, or <a href="https://www.beauty-salon-great-missenden.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Oasis Health &amp; Beauty Spa</a> is a former Muddy Award-winning salon in the centre of Great Missenden.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-community">COMMUNITY</h2>



<p>Dig out your plus-fours for the Whiteleaf Golf Club,  a members-owned community club with a friendly and welcoming vibe (and a stunning AONB setting for its undulating nine holes), or hop over to the <a href="https://www.prestwoodtennisclub.co.uk/">Prestwood Tennis Club</a> if that&#8217;s more your style. The <a href="https://kophillclimb.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kop Hill Climb</a> is a county-famous community fundraiser that&#8217;s been running every year since 1910 – petrolheads bring their classic cars and bikes and race them up the hairaisingly steep Kop Hill road that winds its way to the top of the Chilterns. There&#8217;s fancy dress, and a real festival atmosphere, it&#8217;s a lot of fun.</p>

<p>You’re down the road from the National Trust’s elegant <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/oxfordshire-buckinghamshire-berkshire/hughenden" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hughenden Manor</a>, the former country home of Victorian Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli which offers stunning gardens, a children&#8217;s play area and a café. Or head to pretty West Wycombe, the village completely owned by the National Trust and the film-set for everything from <em>Bridget Jones</em> to <em>Clockwork Orange</em>. There you&#8217;ll find <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/oxfordshire-buckinghamshire-berkshire/west-wycombe-park-village-and-hill" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">West Wycombe Park</a>, the stately set of the Dashwood family, the underground <a href="https://www.hellfirecaves.co.uk/">Hellfir</a><a href="https://www.hellfirecaves.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">e</a><a href="https://www.hellfirecaves.co.uk/"> Caves</a>, and the famous <a href="https://www.nationalchurchestrust.org/church/st-lawrence-west-wycombe" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">St Lawrence Church</a> with its rare golden ball. The Walled Garden does a great brunch and cakes, and there&#8217;s a smart new children&#8217;s soft-play area called <a href="https://www.clarascorner.co/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Clara&#8217;s Corner</a>.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-culture">CULTURE</h2>



<p>You&#8217;re set between the bright lights of Aylesbury and High Wycombe, your go-to for bigger touring productions. Check out <a href="https://www.atgtickets.com/venues/aylesbury-waterside-theatre/info/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Aylesbury Waterside Theatre</a>, the <a href="https://queensparkarts.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Queens Park Arts Centre &amp; Limelight Theatre</a>, and <a href="https://trafalgartickets.com/wycombe-swan-theatre/en-GB" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Wycombe Swan</a> for everything from theatre, workshops, comedy, film screenings and great Xmas pantos. There&#8217;s also the excellent&nbsp;<a href="https://www.roalddahlmuseum.org/visit-roald-dahl-museum/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Road Dahl Museum</a>&nbsp;down the road in Great Missenden where the famous author lived and worked. <p>Whiteleaf Hill is known for its mysterious chalk carving, called The Whiteleaf Cross. Its date and origin are unknown.</p>

<p>There are no local nurseries in Whiteleaf, so the closest are in Princes Risborough, where you&#8217;ll find the Ashbourne Baby Nursery at the <a href="https://files.ofsted.gov.uk/v1/file/50181700" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Secret Garden Pre-School</a> (Ofsted Outstanding), and <a href="https://files.ofsted.gov.uk/v1/file/50183086" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">First Steps Pre-School</a> (Good).</p>

<p>Monks Risborough C of E is the closest state primary, followed by Princes Risborough Primary School, both rated Good by Ofsted. Princes Risborough School is the co-ed state secondary, with a huge catchment area &#8211; after several years of under performing, it&#8217;s really hit its stride and word on the ground from parents is very positive. Private school options include top girls’ Prep school&nbsp;<a href="https://bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/godstowe-school-high-wycombe-review/">Godstowe</a> and the super-high-achieving Senior <a href="https://bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/wycombe-abbey-high-wycombe/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wycombe Abbey</a>, both in High Wycombe, or <a href="https://bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/pipers-corner-chilterns/">Pipers Corner</a>&nbsp;girls’ school (3 &#8211; 18 yrs) in Little Kingshill. </p>

The Oxford schools are more accessible than you think thanks to bus routes from Bucks. <a href="https://bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/headington-rye-oxford-school/">Headington Rye Oxford</a>, a smart all-girls through option, and <a href="https://bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/kids/school-reviews/magdalen-college/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Magdalen College School </a>are both well-served.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>Pretty nippy. The fastest trains from Princes Risborough to London (Marylebone) take 39 mins. Monks Risborough station is closer (5 min drive/ 20 min walk) but you have to change at Princes Risborough, so the fastest journey time is 52 mins. Annual season tickets from Princes Risborough cost £4,608. Driving takes 1 hr 15 mins.</p>
