I read an alarming statistic the other day that said kids today spend only half the amount of time playing outside that we did at the same age. How sad is that?
I&#8217;m not surprised though, what with the endless homework, managing their obsession with screens and parents often worried to let them roam free.
With all this in mind, I&#8217;ve got my eye on a <a href="https://www.forestholidays.co.uk/?utm_source=muddy&amp;utm_medium=partner" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Forest Holidays</a> trip this summer to allow us all to reconnect with the great indoors. Because it&#8217;s all very well tutting at the kids but I myself spend 90 percent of my time staring at a screen these days!
Basically you stay in self-catering tranquil cabins, sleeping 2-10 (some are dog-friendly with pets going free) in beautiful British woodland. Think a more relaxed, nature-focused Centerparcs and you won&#8217;t go far wrong.
There are 10 UK locations, including Cornwall, Hampshire, Nottinghamshire, Yorkshire, Gloucestershire, Norfolk, Argyll and Snowdonia. And while the vibe is all about getting back to nature there&#8217;s definitely no slumming it for you, princess &#8211; think chic interiors, underfloor heating and hot tubs. Now you&#8217;re talking!

Loving the idea of forest rangers on hand on every site &#8211; some of whom are women, which is brilliant to see &#8211;  offering <a href="https://www.forestholidays.co.uk/forest-rangers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">activities</a> such as survival skills (does being good at toasting marshmallows count?) and nocturnal forest adventures to see owls and foxes.
And adults can join in with all this stuff too &#8211; when was the last time you properly played outside?  But here they actively encourage adults to relocate their curiosity and wonder at the natural world and get stuck in to building bug hotels and making dens.

And when you&#8217;ve had enough of all that wholesome fresh air malarkey, you could always leave them to it, sneak off, play your own version of &#8216;hide and seek&#8217; and drink Champagne in the hot tub. Well, you are on holiday!
