<p>I love the The Grocer&#8217;s two sister branches on Old Amersham high street. There&#8217;s the deli, which sells lovely unique food, gifts and treats (plus coffee, of course). Then there&#8217;s a café over the road where you can have cakes, great food and takeaway. It&#8217;s very Old Amersham and only a few minutes&#8217; walk from the boutique so it&#8217;s perfect for a coffee break, a freshly baked cake or to pick up a dinner party present.</p>

<p>Peterley Manor Farm is a great place to head for everything from the annual Christmas tree farm and the Christmas market, which was brilliant this year, to The Barn Kitchen, its fab café with a lovely outside space, and the outdoor pizza oven where they do lovely small plates. We go there on Friday for a glass of wine and a pizza, or for a family walk to see the alpacas. They also have a fish man who brings his stall on a Friday – you can pre-order the fish on a Friday for the weekend.</p>

<p>Big Sky is a brilliant gift shop on Great Missenden high street run by two sisters, Kim White and Karen Riding, who have been there since 2010. It&#8217;s a real treasure trove, you&#8217;ll find a present for any occasion, and the birthday cards are great too. The owners know you by name and always give you a warm welcome and remember things about you. it&#8217;s exactly what a little community shop should be.</p>

<p>This gorgeous gastropub should have a Michelin star – it&#8217;s already been named the <a href="https://bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/eat-out/pubs-inns/review-greyhound-inn-pub-restaurant-beaconsfield/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">AA&#8217;s Best Restaurant in England</a> for 2024. It&#8217;s wonderful to have such an amazing quality restaurant on our doorstep (it&#8217;s a taxi-ride from Old Amersham) without having to make the shlep into London. They do great lunch deals as well &#8211; I had the set lunch menu there recently and the food and the service were fantastic.</p>

<p>Dana from Moldova, who runs Luna Beauty, has introduced us to Russian manicures which are just insane – they last for four to five weeks because they go close to the cuticle. They&#8217;re new on the high street, after opening last year, and they deserve to do really well because they are a fab team of girls.</p>

<p>This independent bookshop (with a sister in Gerrards Cross) runs the best author events. They host a talk in a local venue, like a school of village hall, pretty much each week, and every writer you can imagine has been there: Lorraine Kally, Graham Norton, Liz Earle, and Liane Moriarty, the author of <em>Big Little Lies</em>. There are signings afterwards too, so I&#8217;m looking forward to Simon Mayo and Jojo Moyes next month. </p>

<p>For a real breath of fresh air, there&#8217;s a beautiful walk up Coombe Hill. From the top you have an incredible view over Aylesbury Vale and you can see the Prime Minister&#8217;s country seat at Chequers. It&#8217;s lovely for a picnic in the summer, or just a quick walk to blow the cobwebs away – it&#8217;s only half an hour to the top from the car park. If you wanted to do a megawalk, you could start a walk up to Coombe Hill in Wendover – some people do it as part of a mega training walk for the National <a href="https://www.threepeakschallenge.uk/national-three-peaks-challenge/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Three Peaks Challenge</a> across England, Scotland and Wales.</p>
