<p>Best friends Jeanette Koski and Sally Rosser live opposite each other in Chalfont St Peter, own brother and sister Springerdoodles from the same lockdown litter, and even set up a business together, the bespoke poetry company <a href="https://www.theprettywittycompany.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Pretty Witty Company</a>. They&#8217;re huge supporters of shopping locally too, and even wrote one of their famous odes to help save local indies from closing (it&#8217;s now displayed in every shopfront in Chalfont St Peter). Here&#8217;s where they hang out off-duty.</p>

<p>We spend a lot of time sitting in our local pub, The Jolly Farmer. It does fabulous food, which really is is a cut above, we know the staff and it&#8217;s dog friendly for our two Springerdoodles, Walter and Flo. It&#8217;s lovely to see that it&#8217;s always really full and busy. We&#8217;re also lucky to have The Three Oaks, part of the group owned by the late Terry Wogan&#8217;s daughter, Katherine Cripps, down the road near Gerrards Cross. It&#8217;s Michelin-recommended and has a lovely beer garden for the summer.</p>

<p>Where Inspiration Blooms is designed as a place where you can go to rediscover your creativity and feed your soul. They&#8217;re based in a studio in Holmer Green, plus a second studio based in a beautiful old cricket pavilion in Penn Street. They run workshops on everything from art and pottery to growing your own cut flowers and wreath-making, which we did before Christmas. Like Pretty Witty, Where Inspiration Blooms is run by a female duo who met through their children, and they&#8217;re so thoughtful. When Jeanette had breast cancer they reached out and asked if she&#8217;d like to come and spend the day there. When you&#8217;re there, it&#8217;s just time for you.</p>

<p>This is a lovely womenswear boutique that stocks great brands, and everything is beautifully curated, but it&#8217;s not extortionate. Sally bought her sister, who&#8217;s a real clothes-horse, a great pair of cream trousers – they look sensational.</p>

<p>Pop &amp; Moo is a fabulous gift shop run by our friend Pam, who named it after her parents. We practice what we preach about the importance of shopping locally, so we both did a lot of our Christmas shopping here. It sells everything from homeware to candles, clothes, artisan chocolate and handmade soap. Pam packs a lot into that little shop, and she&#8217;s a great supporter of the community.</p>

<p>Every Friday morning without fail, we go to Crumbs café for coffee. It&#8217;s a tradition that dates back to when our children were both at the local primary school. When we&#8217;ve made it to coffee at Crumbs, we know we&#8217;re doing well and we&#8217;ve made it through to the weekend. It&#8217;s a great spot for lunch too.</p>

<p>We&#8217;re both training for the Three Peaks Challenge in Yorkshire in May, so as training we walk every day &#8211; preferably with a coffee and a cake at the end. One of our favourite walks out of Chalfont St Peter ends at the lovely Rowan Garden Centre in Chalfont St Giles – it&#8217;s a real treat for our training, although we may have to step it up!</p>

<p>The Kitchen Larder (a <a href="https://bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/muddy-awards/2021-winners-buckinghamshire-oxfordshire/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Muddy Award winner in 2021</a>)  is a deli known for its bespoke hampers, selling locally made honey, cheeses, jams, cakes, chocolates and more. It&#8217;s such a beautiful shop, with its mimosa-wreathed entrance and turquoise awning, that owner Rachel Williams has elevated the local street scene. Even her car matches her shop; it&#8217;s very on brand.</p>

<p>We have three fab Indian restaurants in Chalfont St Peter; we&#8217;re spoilt for choice. But Mediterranean restaurant Lara&#8217;s on the high street is our favourite. They do a brilliant reasonably priced lunch and great cocktails (the Lara Delight contains pink gin, crème de cacao, Vanilla syrup, lime juice, cranberry juice, egg white and candy floss). </p>

<p>Our coffee club, which meets at Crumbs every Friday, has also turned into a bit of a culture club. As well as trips to exhibitions in London, we love The Everyman cinema in Gerrards Cross. Recently we watched a screening of <em>Dear England</em>, the play about England football manager Gareth Southgate, and a screening of <em>Prima Facie</em>, starring Jodie Comer. Our next outing is the new Bridget Jones film, out on Valentine&#8217;s Day.</p>

<p>Bottle shops are popping up all over the UK – and we have Vinny &amp; Ted, co-owned by Chalfont local Matt Pryce with ex-cricketers Angus Fraser and Tim Murtagh, which opened in 2022. It&#8217;s a bar-slash-bottle shop, which stocks lots of small-scale artisan beer and cider, and we also love its monthly book club and the sporting legends invited in as guests speakers or to host quizzes – recently we&#8217;ve had ex-England cricketers Graham Gooch and Mike Atherton. There are even women&#8217;s health evenings and a wreath-making workshop: it goes above and beyond to engage the community. </p>
