The Angel, Long Crendon
The cooking at this rustic mid Bucks village pub is something else. No wonder it has a loyal legion of foodie fans.
Over the last couple of decades, The Angel’s chef/patron Trevor Bosch has built up a sturdy reputation for pitch-perfect modern British cooking, with an emphasis on seafood at this unassuming-looking village pub-restaurant. (Go for the fish tapas – it’s a sharing plate but my advice is, er, don’t.)
It’s the kind of place your parents or in-laws will love thanks to its genteel atmosphere, starchy white tablecloths and attentive service. Muddy’s associate editor Kerry has attended many a multi-generational family celebration here over the years and never once had a duff meal. Worth knowing: while it’s very much child-friendly, there’s no dedicated children’s menu.
There’s also five B&B rooms – good to know if you’ve scoffed/quaffed too much to roll home.
