Base Coffee + Kitchen, Long Crendon

Tucked in the tranquil Long Crendon Manor Stables, Base Coffee + Kitchen is fast becoming a community favourite and we can’t say we’re surprised.

A family passion project, Base Coffee + Kitchen is a great pitstop whether you’re passing through to the nearby National Trust Long Crendon Courthouse or taking a gander at the next-door farm shop. The interiors capture an edgy minimalist vibe, all bare brick, exposed rafters and chunky furniture.

Aside from offering your morning cup of joe, sourced from some of the best roasters in the UK – the B corped’ Origin and rotating guest coffee roasters (including PLOT and New Ground), Base has a seriously impressive (and recently updated) brunch menu too. Serving up the age-old favourites, avo on sourdough toast, stacks of American style pancakes smothered in syrup (of course), and the ultimate, Base Breakfast – Starveall butchers Cumberland sausage whirl, streaky bacon (with veggie options available), Mayfield farm poached eggs, roast vine tomatoes, mushrooms, garlic and thyme with sourdough toast on the side – which is just chefs kiss. The ingredients are sourced from local and national indie businesses wherever possible, whether its milk from a Bucks farm or award-winning teas from London. Come summer, you could switch out the hot chocolate for a pick from the selection of craft beers and low-intervention wines, and there are gluten and dairy free options.

If you’re out with little ones, the coffee spot is also child friendly, offering a pretty impressive kids menu which covers sweet and savoury from bacon sarnies to French toast. Got furry friends? Pets are welcome inside the café or they can run around the massive green space just outside, a peaceful spot with pretty views and picnic tables. What more could you want?
