The oldest model village in the world, this quirky collection of nine towns, 4000 inhabitants and countless tiny vehicles has had a glow-up for 2026 – and it’s a real treat for little ones with big imaginations (even HM Queen Elizabeth II and Princess Margaret were fans). Nestled in the v handy location of Beaconsfield in Bucks, Bekonscot may be on the commuter belt, but it captures the charm of quintessential rural English life in the 1930s beautifully.

Just to catch you up, Bekonscot was founded back in 1929 by entrepreneur and model maker Roland Callingham. Fast forward to today, and it’s owned and managed by the Roland Callingham Foundation, which keeps his ‘little but large’ legacy alive, with model villages, steam trains, a threshing machine, a coal mine, and more miniature magic than you can shake a stick at – perfect for keeping the whole gang mesmerised for hours.

Add to this miles of model railways with various engines whizzing around, a tiny version of Enid Blyton’s Beaconsfield home, and 1.5 acres beautifully kept gardens. And to burn off steam, you can ride the light railway or let your littlies loose in the pirate ship playground. When they’re peckish, make a beeline for Bekonscot’s tearoom, serving up all the classics. Sweltering summer day? The ice cream hut and shaded picnic area provide sanctuary.
