Five Alls Filkins, Lechlade

Oozing with charm, this famous Cotswold inn has had a stylish makeover, come for the hearty food, top wines and warm welcome and stay for the deep sleep.

The Five Alls Filkins is a beautiful and historic 17th century coaching inn perched on the Glos & Oxon border in the idyllic village of Filkins & Broughton Poggs.

The setting is Cotswold core at its finest; honey-stoned cottages, dainty church, a babbling stream, village green dotted with apple trees and a community-run village shop. Head ten minutes one way and you’re in Burford, ten minutes the other and you’re in Lechlade with its pretty high street and riverside walks. Once famous as a hang out to Kate Moss, David Cameron and YBA Jake Chapman several moons ago, the Five Alls has had a stylish makeover in 2024 under the expert eye of  Tom Downing, a former GM of the cool Crazy Bear hotels and new GM Robert Wilks.

Book into one of nine stylish and individually furnished rooms, including two luxurious doubles and two kingsize rooms above the inn and five cottage-style bedrooms situated in a peaceful corner of the garden and all with super kingsize beds. Bring the kids and dogs too (this place is super family and pet friendly) and stay in the Family Suite.

Lounge in the friendly bar, brimming with sensitively restored, original features such as oak floors, a fireplaces, exposed beams and William Morris blinds on Georgian sash windows, then dine in the welcoming restaurant which serves up modern British classics in generous portions. Outside, there’s a lovely terrace and lawned garden planted with apple trees with tables shaded with parasols for summer drinking and dining. Got an event? Ask about their private dining area which is available to hire.
