Jacob’s Inn, Wolvercote
This welcoming pub with quirky interiors and brilliant garden is situated at the edge of Oxford's Port Meadow. It's the perfect pitstop for a post-walk drink - Muddy loves.
Part of the groovy Oxfordshire-based House of Jacob empire (Jacobs & Field, The Woodstock Arms, The Red Lion Islip, Jacobs Plough), you’ll find Jacob’s Inn in the village of Wolvercote.
Inside the pub is relaxed and friendly, with low ceilings, log fires, warm walls and the clever interiors styling creates nooks, crannies and areas of interest that make it feel intimate and welcoming. It feels relaxed and elegantly thrown together – but its retro insouciance certainly took a lot of time and effort.
The bar and the snug area (which can be hired for private dining) are both dog friendly and, with the pub situated on the edge of Port Meadow, are ideal for stopping off for a drink before, or after, a dog walk (or both).
The outside area gets top marks from Muddy with an alfresco dining area and terrace, plus bright, striped deck chairs in the warmer months. The garden is also home to hens and pygmy goats Eric & Ernie – cute!
Food wise, the menu changes seasonally with daily specials sourced from local foodie suppliers.
