Old Town Bistro, Beaconsfield

The Greyhound’s new little sister has arrived in Beaconsfield Old Town, serving up elevated British comfort food, family-recipe croquettes, epic Sunday roasts and the kind of warm hospitality that keeps locals coming back for seconds.

If you’ve ever found yourself booking your next table at The Greyhound before you’ve even finished pudding, then listen up. Old Town Bistro is the new, laidback little sister to Beaconsfield’s award-winning foodie favourite, bringing the same impeccable standards and local sourcing, but with a more easy-going neighbourhood bistro feel.

Tucked into the heart of Beaconsfield Old Town, this latest venture from husband-and-wife team Daniel Crump and Margriet Vandezande-Crump is all about classic British comfort food done exceptionally well. The menu is packed with dishes you’ll actually want to eat on a Wednesday night, from chicken, asparagus and tarragon pie with mash to fish and chips with proper chunky chips and mushy peas. There are nods to Margriet’s Belgian heritage too, including Belgian fries and the restaurant’s signature brown shrimp croquettes – a treasured family recipe perfected by Margriet’s mother over four decades and now one of the menu’s standout dishes.

The food sits firmly in that sweet spot between elevated and approachable. Start with an OTB Scotch egg or baked Camembert to share, move on to Buckinghamshire ribeye from the grill or market fish with seaweed beurre blanc, then finish with the house OTB sundae if you’re feeling sensible enough to leave room. There’s breakfast, lunch and dinner from Weds to Sat, plus what promises to be one of the area’s most sought-after Sunday roasts.

Why does Muddy rate it? Because it delivers exactly what Beaconsfield was missing: somewhere stylish but unfussy, where you can pop in for a sandwich and a glass of wine, settle in for supper with friends or make a lazy Sunday afternoon disappear over roast beef and pudding. With The Greyhound pedigree behind it and a menu packed with crowd-pleasers, this one already feels like a local institution in the making.
