I think many would agree that London is best enjoyed from a distance. Seven miles and half an hour by tube from Central London, uber-chic Richmond is a pocket of glossy tranquility. Stroll among the deer in Richmond Park, take the little ones otter-spotting at the London Wetland Centre, bask in the botanic bounty of Kew Gardens, or enjoy a regal day trip to Hampton Court – they’re all within a few miles here.

First, you’ll have to make it out of bed though. After all, the Richmond Hill Hotel is itself a little patch of paradise, so you’ll find it hard to tear yourself away. The Georgian building dates back to 1726, and has retained its historic beauty inside and out. The interiors are breathtaking from floor to ceiling: from the bedrooms to the stunning meeting and event spaces. It’s a popular wedding spot, as you’d expect, and the hotel’s staff always go the extra mile to make guests feel special on their big day.

Feeling peckish? Hop next-door to the hotel’s adjoining restaurant, the award-winning 144 On The Hill. The menu, hand-crafted by head chef Jessen Valaydon, is constantly changing with locally sourced, seasonal produce, and it’s all plated with Insta-perfect presentation. Smoothest-in-the-biz bartenders have a selection of over 100 gins to play with, and with that variety there’s no shame in spending every night in the hotel bar. There’s a 24-hour gym if you feel like working any of it off, or Heal’s designer beds in every room if you choose to sleep it off. You’ll find me on the sun-trap terrace enjoying the gorgeous scenery though.
