Nestled within The Randolph Hotel, entering The Alice feels a little bit like falling down the rabbit hole. With its elaborate wallpapers and opulent colour schemes, dining at this all-day British brasserie is an immersive experience.

Catering for hotel guests and visitors alike, this elegant restaurant is the perfect spot for history lovers, locals and city-dwellers seeking a much-needed escape. On the menu there’s plenty of seasonal, locally-sourced British dishes with contemporary updates, such as Cured Salmon with Pickled Cucumber and Almonds to start, Roast Goosnargh Chicken with New Potatoes, Chorizo & Wild Mushrooms for main and Custard Tart with Glazed Plums for dessert. While traditional roasts of whole joints, Yorkshire pudding, duck fat potatoes and seasonal veg are served every Sunday, there is also a pre-theatre menu available for shows at the close by Oxford Playhouse. 

In the mood for tipple instead? The Alice Bar offers a unique selection of aptly named Alice in Wonderland-inspired cocktails like ‘Through the Looking Glass,’ which is a beautiful concoction of Gin, Madeira Wine, Peach, Lemon and Soda, along with an extensive list of wines, spirits and beer. 

A cosy snug lies between The Alice Brasserie and one of two private dining rooms which is the perfect setting to enjoy pre- or post-dinner drinks and lighter bites. The decor follows a similar theme with intricately patterned wall-to-ceiling wallpaper, mood lighting and a rich colour scheme which gives an underground speakeasy vibe – i.e., somewhere we could happily while away an hour or two.
