The Cherry Tree Inn, Henley-on-Thames

This chic pub and restaurant with rooms dating back to the 1830s is packed to its original rafters with charm – plus with the Chilterns on your doorstep, it’s an ideal base for exploring.

From the moment you step into this low-ceiled, cosy gem of a pub in Henley’s Stoke Row you know you’re onto a winner – not least thanks to the roaring open fires, excellently-stocked bar (seriously, I’ve never seen more local gins in one pub) and delicious smells wafting out of the kitchen. Having been lovingly restored by owners Nat and Dan since it was acquired back in 2018, The Cherry Tree Inn now boasts a fresh, seasonal menu made with ingredients from their own kitchen garden – complete with beehives housing more than 15,000 bees. There’s also a spacious pub garden that’s ideal for whiling away the sunny hours while the kids play on the vintage tractors or coo over resident rabbits Rosie and Clifford, and cosy nooks and crannies to nurse a G&T in come the colder months.

Can’t bear to leave at the end of the night? Lucky for you, The Cherry Tree Inn has four beautifully restored en-suite bedrooms, with reclaimed wood wardrobes, original paintings dotted about and all the mod-cons a girl could want. After crashing in the super comfy beds, amble down to the pub for a traditional English breakfast and a steaming mug of coffee from Per’La Speciality Roasters – bliss.
