The Double Red Duke is an elegantly renovated 17th-century coaching inn with 19 bedrooms that opened in May 2021. It seamlessly mixes the old with the new, so while there are classic, dark-panelled cosy corners and roaring fires, you will also find bright dining areas awash with greenery. If you choose to book in for a night or two, you’ll be delivered into a room with vast beds, stylish botanical wallpaper, and tubs that, quite frankly, you could do laps in. The inn is newly opening May 2021 and is happily situated in the picturesque Cotswolds village of Clanfield, which often featured as a backdrop in Downton Abbey. 

Beautiful as the premises are, the food will be a considerable draw. Head chef Richard Sandiford previously worked at The Hawksmoor, so it should come as no surprise that so much of the cooking is done over the fire — be it whole suckling pig or charred carrot salad — and therefore is imbued with that trademark smoky deliciousness.

Aside from eating and sleeping, guests at The Double Red Duke can enjoy expert massages in the custom-made shepherd hut in the pub gardens, and all treatments use 100 Acres products. The inn and kitchen can also be hired out for weddings, parties, and private events.
