The Griffin in Old Amersham, South Bucks, is so much more than a restaurant (though it’s a gorgeous one at that). The late 17^th Century coaching inn was taken over and restored with  love – and flair – by owner Joe in 2021 and what’s emerged is a buzzy and eclectic bistro with its own chic event space and stylish Members Co-Working Club upstairs.

The vibe in the bistro is bold with fabulous wallpaper, plush jewel coloured furnishings, gold gilt mirrors and lush greenery, though it’s also managed to nail the cosy vibe – so sink back into that velvet chair and relax with a glass of red after that epic Sunday roast with all the trimmings.

Food’s also served lunch and dinner Wed – Sat, with a menu of seasonal and local produce, with elevated classics and a daily dish du jour alongside the super-popular Sunday lunch (seriously, book early). Bolder diners won’t be disappointed, think shitake mushroom risotto with hazelnuts and pickled radicchio, venison croquette with a celeriac remoulade and walnut ketchup, or sticky toffee pudding with milk ice cream and raspberry sherbet. The weekly set menu is great value at £22 for two courses and £29 for three, so co-workers: you can ditch that soggy packed lunch.

Out the back, there’s an on-site bakery producing daily fresh sourdough and sweet pastries. Add to this a well-honed cocktail list and a gorgeous terrace for alfresco dining (hello rosé), and you have yourselves a day-to-night party.

Speaking of, The Griffin has enough space to cater for events whether that’s an evening of private dining (the cosy mezzanine seats up to 24), or a big family do or corporate event (the Assembly Room caters for up to 70).

Then there’s the Members Club – a space for local professionals, creatives and entrepreneurs to meet, work and collaborate. Along the desks and the high speed internet, there are luxe Chesterfield-style sofas, richly coloured walls and quirky furnishings *turns Zoom camera on*. Other perks include early access to events, discounts on event room hire and (coming soon) access to two enclosed booth rooms for private calls.

In a word, dreamy.
