The Oxford Kitchen, Oxford

Muddy says: Fine dining without the pretension, this modern British restaurant in chi-chi North Oxford, has a relaxed, bistro feel with beautifully presented food.

Like your fine dining in relaxed surroundings? The Oxford Kitchen in chichi Summertown in North Oxford has a reputation for its modern British cuisine, but with its bifold windows out onto the street and its striking giant chandelier, it also feels approachable.

There are two floors, the ground floor with the window and bar and cute inglenook, or upstairs with its street views. Either way the food is adventurous and fun and with Paul Welburn taking over as executive chef from January from John Footman, it will keep things interesting – Welburn trained with the likes of Gary Rhodes and Richard Corrigan, has held a Michelin star for five years as head chef at W1, and has appeared on The Great British Menu.

Big Muddy thumbs up.
