The Plough at Shiplake is a gastropub is full of original charm, with low hung bare beams and brick-surround fireplace, yet cool with contemporary décor. Diners are greeted by a sleek bar where they can order a pint of the Marlow Rebellion or perch with a martini while they wait for their table.

Contemporary art on the walls gives the place a modish air but the sofa by the fire and sideboard with vases of flowers gives it a homely feel too. All about attention to detail – low lighting, soft velveteen chairs and upbeat indie music creates a gentle buzz.

Foodies will love the quirky menu, with modern combinations and beautiful presentation of the food, however there’s also enough on the menu for more simpler tastes.
