The Red Lion at Northmoor, Witney
Family get-together, date night, or a countryside break? The Red Lion at Northmoor can oblige, with its classic menu and chic shepherds huts for overnight stays.

Nestled in the Oxfordshire countryside just outside of Witney, this Muddy Award-winning community pub boasts a locally-sourced bar, glamping-style huts and a menu that adores the classics – think Sirloin steak, battered cod and chips, veggie and vegan burgers etc. What’s more, the chef uses fresh seasonal ingredients for every dish including the signature Pig’s Head.
There’s plenty here to satisfy every last foodie (no one’s saying mum’s roast isn’t best, but the Sunday roast here looks like it would put up a fight). Planning on bringing the kids? Don’t sweat it, the children’s menu has great variety and lots of veggies – plus a free scoop of ice cream.
So, you’ve had your three-course meal, and it’s time to drive home – says who? There’s far more than meets the eye with this pretty pub, as just outside there are three shepherd huts that have ‘glamping’ written all over… think wi-fi, smart TV, en-suite – the whole shebang. Each hut also has a wood burner and basket of logs for those spontaneous winter staycations – oh, and you get a continental breakfast delivered every morning!
Before you visit, we’ll let you in on a fun little secret: bring an old book! The pub has a book swap shelf you can bring one and take one. Sounds like the perfect way to spend an afternoon to me.
