The Slaughters Manor House, Lower Slaughter

AA country jewel fit for Lord and Lady, this Cotswolds Manor is the ultimate family-friendly escape – form an orderly queue!

A quintessentially English Manor dating back to the 17th century, The Slaughters Manor House serves up the perfect mix of gorgeous grounds, swanky suites, and to-die-for dining on a snazzy silver platter.

Hidden away over the Glos/Oxon border, The Slaughters Manor House has 19 rooms to choose from, all decorated to the nines with soothing paint shades, luxurious fabrics and eye-catching modern art (a personal touch by hotel owners Christina and Andrew Brownsword). Of course, each one also comes with the full complement of homemade biscuits, L’Occitane lotions and potions and fluffy robes to slip into.

As you’d expect from a bolthole in this neck of the woods, country charm permeates each corner of the manor. Take the grounds for example, where an English croquet lawn sits amongst specimen trees, or the restaurant and its original stonework fireplace that’s still in tip-top shape.

Speaking of dining, the award-winning restaurant is headed up by 4-AA Rosette chef Nik Chappell, serving up Insta-ready seasonal dishes, thanks to Nik’s artistic eye. There’s also a delightful afternoon tea menu with classic finger sarnies and jammy scones served alongside a selection of teas and coffees, or Champagne if you’re celebrating (or, y’know, it’s Friday). If you’re a savoury kinda gal, there’s an afternoon tea to match – hello cured meats, cheese, pickles, pork pies and cheese scones – but whether savoury or sweet, you can ask the Slaughters Manor House team to pack it all up in an hamper for you to take exploring in the grounds (or up to bed if the weather’s not playing ball).

If you’re already gearing up for Christmas dinner, why not check into the manor for the holidays and let The Slaughters Manor House do all the hard work for you while you relax with a glass (or three) of mulled wine? Book into the three-night retreat from 24-27 December and you’ll dig into a delicious cream tea on arrival and enjoy live music, multiple-course dinners and Christmas lunch all without lifting a finger.

Bottom line: this is an indulgent family-friendly escape (pets and all) and a stylish base for exploring the Cotswolds, and we likey.
