<p>The world-renowned <a href="https://www.new.ox.ac.uk/j-s-bach-christmas-oratorio-parts-i-iii-16-december-2023">New College Choir</a> performs Parts 1-3 of Bach’s setting of the Christmas Story in the lovely central setting of University Church. Robert Quinney is the musical director with Sebastian Hill as the Evangelist, and support from Oxford ensemble Instruments of Time &amp; Truth. It’s an early start at 6.30pm so it’s perfect timing for a dinner afterwards. <a href="https://www.new.ox.ac.uk/j-s-bach-christmas-oratorio-parts-i-iii-16-december-2023">Tickets</a> £10-38.</p>

<p>Ain’t no Christmas without Handel’s <em>Messiah</em> and the beautiful acoustics at <a href="https://www.dorchester-abbey.org.uk/event/handel-messiah-2/?instance_id=10099">Dorchester Abbey</a> near Abingdon are here to ably assist. The excellent Orchestra of St John’s and OSJ Voices will be supporting soloists Hanna Fraser-Mackenzie (soprano), Ellie Edmonds (alto), Dominic Bevan(tenor) and Daniel Barrett (bass)<em>. </em>The concert runs from 7pm – 9.30pm. <a href="https://www.dorchester-abbey.org.uk/event/handel-messiah-2/?instance_id=10099">Tickets</a> £5-30 but free tickets are available for NHS workers and the disabled – email<em> </em><a href="mailto:admin@osj.org.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">admin@osj.org.uk</a>.</p>

<p>A mix of world-class choral music from Christchurch Cathedral Choir, readings from theatre company Box tale Soup and audience participation with a string of carols under the direction of Steven Grahl. <p>If you’re battling your way through the heaving shopping masses in Oxford on Sunday, take a break by swerving into the Holywell Music Room, just off Broad St. The first custom-built concert hall in Europe dating from 1748, it puts on weekly Sunday morning <a href="https://www.coffeeconcerts.com/">Coffee Concerts</a>, with a rolling schedule of top international chamber artists. For your December delectation, listen to the Carducci String Quartet play Shostakovich’s String Quartet no 10 in A flat major and Beethoven’s “Razumovsky” String Quartet no 8 in E minor. <a href="https://www.coffeeconcerts.com/get-tickets/">Tickets</a> £15, including a complimentary cup of coffee from The King’s Arms round the corner. <p>A brilliant way to introduce your baby or toddler to classical music. This London-based company offers mini concerts all around the country but is rocking up to St Michael and All Angels Church <a href="https://www.bachtobaby.com/oxford-summertown-music-concerts-for-baby-and-family">this weekend </a>for a 45 minute Christmas Family Concert. Bach to Baby welcomes children of all ages, and imposes no behavioural expectations so you can relax during this Christmas concert while they’re bombing around the vestry.<strong> </strong> <a href="https://www.bachtobaby.com/oxford-summertown-music-concerts-for-baby-and-family">Tickets</a> are £15 but have already sold out for 11.30am performance, so move fast for the 10am sitting.</p>
