<p>Marlow&#8217;s landmark Compleat Angler hotel occupies a commanding spot at the gateway to the town next to its famous suspension bridge &#8211; so it&#8217;s perfectly placed to kick off Marlow&#8217;s run of festive fun. Head here for for its Christmas Market on the evening of Tue 19 Nov, where from 6.30-9.30pm you&#8217;ll find stalls offering everything from wreath-making displays to hog roasts, hot dogs and the chance to sample some festive wine or gin. We say, let the merry-making commence! <p>Marlow is photogenic at any time of year but it gets an extra sparkle in November and December thanks to the high street&#8217;s show-stopping festive lights, with miniature Xmas trees sprucing up the shop-fronts. It all kicks off at Marlow&#8217;s Christmas lights switch on, when a local celeb standing atop a double-decker bus does the honours (there was a <em>serious</em> crush for Mary Berry back in 2016). This year&#8217;s famous face is Paralympic rower Naomi Riches (above), who has played a big part in the community since moving to Marlow in 2008 and has a London 2012 Gold Post Box on Marlow High Street. The Christmas switch-on starts from 6pm, but head here early because the high street will be closed from 3.30pm to 8pm, giving you plenty of time to browse Marlow&#8217;s boutiques and festive street stalls, listen to carols and watch the street entertainers strolling around on stilts. It&#8217;ll be a White Christmas too &#8211; okay, not real snow but a snow machine adds to the festive flurry each year.</p>

<p><a href="https://bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/little-black-book/directory/liston-court-gardens-marlow/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Liston Court Gardens</a> is a hidden gem tucked off the High Street that doubles up as a fab community events space, offering a seasonal programme of everything from street food to live music and yoga. Naturally, it&#8217;s big on the festive fun too &#8211; so clear your diary for this year&#8217;s market, called A Merry Marlow Christmas, where you can start ticking off your shopping list at the pop-up craft and gift fair from 11am-4pm. Stallholders will be selling everything from locally produced cheese and food hampers (c/o <a href="https://www.instagram.com/marlowcheese/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Marlow Cheese</a>) to sustainable handmade clothes from <a href="https://www.instagram.com/tommyandlottie/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tommie &amp; Lottie</a> &#8211; plus Christmas wreaths and flowers, homewares, cosmetics, candles, pet accessories and more. We&#8217;re also loving the look of Letterbox gifting indie <a href="https://www.instagram.com/hellofrienduk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hello Friend</a> and handmade cosmetics brand <a href="https://www.instagram.com/abananamoon.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">A Banana Moon</a> (but we fear our bank balance may not thank us). There&#8217;s plenty to keep younger members of the family amused too. Head to Santa&#8217;s Grotto for a one-on-one with the jolly man in the red suit (£3 per child) or let kids get stuck in at the free festive craft station. Throw in street entertainers and live music and you&#8217;ll be jingling all the way home.</p>

<p>Each year on a weekend close to Christmas, Marlow becomes a sea of red as hundreds of locals (and further afield) run, jog, walk or push a buggy 5km around the streets of Marlow dressed as Father Christmas for the Rotary Club&#8217;s charity fun run. It raised an impressive £72k last year and the 2024 bar has been raised to £80k &#8211; so go on, <a href="https://www.paperturn-view.com/rotary-clubs-of-marlow/santa-24-open-for-entries?pid=ODg8818818&amp;p=3&amp;v=14.17" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">sign up here</a>. It&#8217;s open to all ages, but if you&#8217;re not tempted to don the Santa suit yourself, it&#8217;s a great spectator sport. Hang out at the start/finish point in Higginson Park from 9am and cheer on the runners from the safety of the mulled wine tent. Ho, ho, go!</p>

<p>Love to belt out a carol after a couple of glasses of mulled wine? The annual Carols on the Causeway, run by the Town Council, is a chance to open up the pipes. Gather around the Christmas tree in the town square at the foot of the high street and sing accompanied by the Marlow Town Band. More details will be coming soon, but based on last year, we expect there&#8217;ll be a Santa&#8217;s grotto for kids and mulled wine on the menu. Cheers! </p>
