<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-good-for-nurturing-talent-halton-mid-bucks">Good for nurturing talent: Halton, mid Bucks </h2>

<p><a aria-label="Halton (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.haltontennis.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Halton</a> is both a friendly local club and a performance centre, and combines a quaint clubhouse and welcoming feel with top notch facilities. There are a stonking 17 courts in total &#8211; 11 outdoors and 6 indoor courts as well as 4 dedicated mini courts and it&#8217;s just, this year, switched its artificial grass courts across to clay, with all floodlit. It&#8217;s close to Aylesbury, Chesham, Tring and High Wycombe and offers a range of adult and kid courses as well as coaching for disabled tennis players. Plus there&#8217;s a fantastic gym and physio on site. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-good-for-getting-a-game-north-oxford-lawn-tennis-club">Good for getting a game: North Oxford Lawn Tennis Club </h2>

<p><a aria-label="NOLTC (opens in a new tab)" href="https://noltc.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">NOLTC</a> is the largest club in Oxon, with over 400 members. It boasts 9 hard courts with floodlights and 10 well maintained grass courts from May to September (not a mole hill or dandelion to be had!).</p>



<p>The club has 17 teams playing in the Oxfordshire summer leagues so there&#8217;s plenty of opportunity to compete in tournaments as well as winter and summer leagues. Coaching is offered year round for ages 4 and up with participation and performance sessions plus holiday camps for 5-17 year olds with half and full days as well as disability tennis and social sessions. New for summer 2024 are the free Junior Club nights on Fridays 6-7.30pm, which are coached sessions and a chance to have a go at tennis in a relaxed and commitment-free environment.</p>

<p>For sheer numbers, it’s hard to beat <a aria-label="Gerrards Cross (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.gxltc.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Gerrards Cross</a>. There are a whopping 18 courts &#8211; seven grass, five artificial clay, three artificial grass, two hard courts and a mini-court. There are junior development coaching programmes and performance invitationals.  </p>



<p>The centre hosts loads of tournaments, social tennis and just plain socials, so every level is catered for whether you&#8217;re just starting out, aiming for Wimbledon, or in it to rally and natter.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-good-for-everyone-white-horse-leisure-abingdon">Good for everyone: White Horse Leisure, Abingdon</h2>



<p>This <a href="https://www.better.org.uk/leisure-centre/vale-of-white-horse/white-horse-leisure-and-tennis-centre" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">leisure centre</a> is a tennis specialist and has six indoor tennis courts plus four artificial grass courts outside. Most of the coaching happens indoors with after school sessions, weekend competitions and holiday camps throughout the year. There&#8217;s open-to-all coaching plus performance sessions which are invitation-only and competitions at all levels so you don&#8217;t need to be on the fast-track to have a go.</p>



<p>The centre is highly inclusive with sessions geared to visually impaired players, Down&#8217;s Syndrome and wheelchair events.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-good-for-playing-at-any-level-oxford-sports-lawn-tennis-club">Good for playing at any level: Oxford Sports Lawn Tennis Club</h2>



<p>Freshly crowned for the Best Junior Programme of The Year 2024 at the Oxfordshire Tennis Awards, this <a aria-label="city club (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.oxfordsportsltc.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">city club</a> in Oxford&#8217;s North Hinksey Village has been running for over 100 years. It has eight all-weather courts, all of which are floodlit and mini courts for littlies. It has five men&#8217;s and four ladies teams plus mixed leagues over the summer and evening and daytime social play opportunities. On the junior side, it welcomes 4-18 year olds and from beginners to performance players and offers camps during the February, May and October half terms and the&nbsp;Easter and Summer holidays &#8211; so that&#8217;s their future career and your holiday childcare sorted in one! </p>

<p><a href="https://www.livingtennis.co.uk/bisham" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="Bisham (opens in a new tab)">Bisham</a>, near Marlow, is one of Sport England’s National Sports Centres, which means your youngster will be brushing shoulders not just with the next Emma Raducanu, but the hopeful Johnny Wilkinsons, Marcus Rashfords and Maddie Hinch&#8217;s (that&#8217;s rugby, football and hockey for the unsporty amongst you). In fact there are 20 sports organisations based there with all the associated gyms, physios, nutritionists and kit you&#8217;d expect. </p>



<p>The tennis courts include four American clay courts, four floodlit acrylic courts and four indoor hard courts.&nbsp;The junior academy is invitational but there are kids holiday courses available for anyone to book from beginners and up alongside private adult and kid coaching, plus open-to-all kids sessions after school and at weekends during term time. If you&#8217;re in Marlow, also check out <a href="https://www.thamestennis.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Marlow Tennis Academy</a>, a club with courts in Higginson Park with pay-and-play right up to term time and holiday sessions run by the LTA coach, Richard Mole.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-for-littlies-bucks-indoor">Best for littlies: Bucks Indoor</h2>



<p>Winter isn&#8217;t the greatest time to get little ones started with a combo of slippery courts, wind and cold fingers. So if you leave it til then, why not ease them in with some indoor play (bonus &#8211; you can sit in the café or watch from the viewing platform in comfort!). <a aria-label="Bucks Indoor Tennis (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.bucksitc.co.uk/tennis" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bucks Indoor Tennis</a> has four courts and offers coaching from the age of three! </p>



<p>There are various courses by age/skill that work around school and holidays, and they offer tennis holiday camps, and even parties. There&#8217;s also <a aria-label="High Wycombe Tennis Club (opens in a new tab)" href="https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/HighWycombeLawnTennisClub/About" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">High Wycombe Tennis Club</a> nearby with six outdoor courts, for when they&#8217;re ready to play outside.  </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-for-families-david-lloyd-oxford">Best for families: David Lloyd Oxford</h2>



<p>The <a href="https://www.davidlloyd.co.uk/clubs/oxford/club-facilities/tennis/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">snazzy health club</a> on the edge of Oxford has invested in its tennis and boasts 3 indoor and 3 outdoor tennis courts. It also has&nbsp;free 4-week beginner and refresher courses so you can try a taster without committing. Coaching is offered for 3-18 year olds for David Lloyd members with sessions running around school and during the holidays. Competition wise there&#8217;s box leagues, ladders, tournaments, LTA events and team tennis. </p>



<p>The centre also has a spa, pool, gym, creche, fitness classes, café and kids club (praise be!) so the non-tennis playing members of the family are more than catered for.&nbsp; </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-good-for-new-facilities-braywick">Good for new facilities: Braywick</h2>

<p>This <a href="https://www.livingtennis.co.uk/braywick" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Berks club</a> is still feels shiny and new, having opened in 2021. Its gym, pool, café, nursery(!) and meeting rooms are all available to members and non-members and there are six tennis courts on site plus indoor mini courts. </p>



<p>The Paul Delgado tennis academy is geared to both adults and children with beginner through to performance training and holiday camps. Starting age is four with lessons indoors, up to 11+, after which promising players move onto performance training.</p>
