<p>We all know it&#8217;s tough out there for the hospitality industry right now, so hats off to Tom Rainey of <a href="https://www.theblackhorse-gozzardsford.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Black Horse </a>in Gozzard&#8217;s Ford in Abingdon, who has just launched his first country pub. Admittedly, this isn&#8217;t his first hospitality rodeo – he also runs the community-focused <a href="https://www.thepunteroxford.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Punter</a>&nbsp;in&nbsp;Osney and <a href="https://www.theporterhouse-oxford.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Porterhouse Grill </a>off Botley, Oxford, so all signs point to a lovely addition to the South Oxfordshire foodie scene. The big calling card is the pub garden – all 3,000 sq ft of it – which will be ready for summer 2027. </p>



<p>Good news, too, <a href="https://www.villagebluesky.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Crown</a> at Cuddington, in mid Bucks. A former Muddy favourite, this gorgeous 17th-century thatched pub closed its doors in January this year, but is reopening in July as a community-run offering. No exact date as yet, but when I know, you&#8217;ll know! </p>

<p>Love tennis? If you haven&#8217;t been to <a href="https://www.theboodles.com/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Boodles </a>tennis tournament in Stoke Park, south Bucks, this is your <em>hello! </em>moment. The sport&#8217;s biggest names, wanting to get in grass court practise before Wimbledon, often rock up (Djokovic and Murray have both played there in the past). For this year&#8217;s event from 23-27 June, Jakub Menšík, the 19-year-old Czech star who reached the semi-finals at Roland Garros earlier this month, has just confirmed his attendance, along with Sebastian Korda, Andrey Rublev and Arthur Fils. Grab a bottle of bubbly, take a seat and enjoy the show.</p>

<p>Never mind Richard E Grant and Claire Foy, Buckinghamshire&#8217;s <a href="https://www.westwycombeestate.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">West Wycombe Estate</a> shows off its range in <em>Savage House, </em>a black comedy, currently in cinemas nationwide, about a social-climbing hedonistic couple in 18th century England. The 18th century Palladian mansion house has previously featured in dozens of films and TV adaptations, including <em>Bridget Jones’s Baby</em>, <em>Sense &amp; Sensibility,</em> <em>Austenland</em>, <em>Queen of the Desert</em>, <em>A Very British Scandal,</em> <em>Little Dorrit </em>and <em>Downton Abbey</em>. You can tour the house and gardens (house guided tours only on weekdays and freeflow on Sunday) though the whole site is closed from 16 June &#8211; 7 July (we&#8217;re guessing for another film), so make this the weekend you visit.  </p>
