<p>You may recall that the funeral scene in the new Beetlejuice sequel <a href="https://bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/latest-news/celeb-sightings-new-openings-buckinghamshire-oxfordshire/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">was filmed on the West Wycombe Estate</a>. We saw a glimpse in the film&#8217;s trailer back in March &#8211; and now the update on the iconic 1980s movie, called <em>Beetlejuice Beetlejuice</em>, has burst into life at its London premiere this week. Original cast members Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton reprise their roles alongside newbie Jenna Ortega (above) &#8211; and you can catch it on general release from 6 Sept. Pass the popcorn!</p>

<p>We all know the rolling Chilterns scenery in Bucks is to die for &#8211; quite literally, in fact because Pierce Brosnan, Dame Helen Mirren, Celia Imrie, Sir Ben Kingsley, Richard E Grant <em>and</em> David Tennant rolled into town this month to film <em>The Thursday Murder Club</em>.</p>



<p>As I write, plans are being laid to close roads in Little Missenden for filming scenes next week at The Red Lion pub (already famous thanks to its star turn in <em>Midsomer Murders</em>). The Netflix film is based on <em>Pointless</em> host Richard Osman&#8217;s bestselling book of the same name, which follows a group of elderly sleuths working out whodunnit from the comfort of their retirement home. Brosnan plays ex-trade unionist Ron, and Mirren is former spy Elizabeth. The Netflix crew have already shot scenes in Theale, near Reading, around Beaconsfield, and on Muddy&#8217;s doorstep at the sailing club in Bourne End. Where will they be spotted next? <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-hurray-first-orders-for-new-watering-holes">Hurray! First orders for new watering holes</h2>

<p>It can be feast or famine in the hospitality industry &#8211; but the good news is that September is a great month for scoffing and quaffing your way into autumn thanks to some rather tasty new openings in these parts. First up, the new outpost of Japanese chain <a href="https://kibou.co.uk/news/kibou_oxford_now_open" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><strong>Kibou</strong></a> is now fully open for business on Oxford&#8217;s Little Clarendon Street and doing a roaring trade in classic and contemporary Japanese cuisine. Think beautifully presented ‘moriawase’ sushi and sashimi platters, fresh seafood, seared wagyu, and hearty bowls of steaming ramen. Over in the Cotswolds, award-winning chef Hugo Kosmala has taken over <strong>Thyme &amp; Lovage</strong>, the riverside cafe at <a href="https://www.warwickhallburford.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Warwick Hall</a> in Burford. Until recently Hugo headed up the kitchen at the AA Rosette-awarded Swan at Swinbrook, so expect a similarly top-end menu &#8211; Cornish crab and pickled cucumber samphire lovage are among the first dishes of the day. We also hear whispers that Thame is set to get a new steakhouse, in partnership with Oxon catering biz <strong>Fallow &amp; Fields</strong>. Watch this space for more details on their plans.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-eat-out-for-less-at-pizza-express">Eat out for less at Pizza Express</h2>

<p>It won Best Florist in the Muddy Stilettos Awards only last year &#8211; but sadly <a href="https://houseofflowers.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">House of Flowers</a> in Wantage is closing on 21 Sept. Shop owners said the decision to close was &#8220;not easy&#8221; and thanked their customers for their loyalty and support.&nbsp;Well, we know they&#8217;re the best in the business &#8211; and we&#8217;re sure they&#8217;ll bloom where they find themselves planted next.</p>

<p>And finally: We know you&#8217;ve been whetting your appetite for the opening of the new Pig hotel in the Cotswolds, a short hop over the border in Glos &#8211; and the wait is now over. The&nbsp;<strong>Pig-in-the-Cotswolds</strong>&nbsp;(to give it its full name) will be open for business from&nbsp;<strong>Sun 8 Sept</strong>, and head chef Will Parkes will be championing local suppliers. Everything will come from a 25-mile radius, in fact &#8211; so if you&#8217;re a fan of an Eccles Cake (the nearby Bakery on the Water is famous for them), then&nbsp;<a href="https://www.thepighotel.com/book/?wantRooms=false&amp;wantTables=true&amp;wantSpa=false&amp;tableCovers=2&amp;hotelCode=PVP&amp;utm_source=cendyn&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=table_bookings_open_-_pic" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">trot along pronto</a>.&nbsp;</p>
