<p>Forget scratchy velvet seats and someone sitting behind you rustling wrappers, this is theatre where the stage is an Oxfordshire farm, the scenery comes courtesy of mother nature and you get to follow the action through fields, woodland and under the stars.</p>

<p>One minute you&#8217;re sipping something chilled in the Eco Barn, the next you&#8217;re following Rosalind into the Forest of Arden or helping Dorothy look for the Yellow Brick Road. It&#8217;s brilliantly immersive without ever feeling intimidating. More of a voyeur? That’s totally fine too. Interaction is encouraged but not forced so you can throw yourself in as little or much as you like. The vibe is very <a href="https://bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/arts-culture-things-to-do/review-creation-theatre-a-midsummer-nights-dream-oxford-wolfson-college-shakespeare-open-air-oxfordshire/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Creation Theatre </a>(which Muddy is a big fan of), in fact, Charlotte, who runs Theatre on the Farm, has also directed Creation shows, so you&#8217;re definitely in good hands. </p>

<p>If Shakespeare conjures up not-so-fond memories of GCSE English, prepare to be won over because here he’s had quite the glow-up. <em>As You Like It </em>begins with a roaring twenties knees-up in the Eco Barn, where donning feathers and fringing is positively encouraged (should you desire, no pressure!). Sip a cocktail, sashay to the Charleston and soak up the Gatsby-esque glamour before the action spills out into the Forest of Arden and on to the beautiful outdoor performance space, where the comedy unfolds amongst the hay bales.</p>

<p>We&#8217;ve all been there. The curtain&#8217;s barely up before someone&#8217;s asking for a snack, a toilet trip or to be reunited with an iPad. Not here. <em>The</em> <em>Wonderful Wizard of Oz</em> is less &#8220;sit quietly in your seat&#8221;, more full-blown family adventure. The show starts in Dorothy&#8217;s Farmyard, complete with potion-making, egg collecting, mini tractors, face paints, crafts and a proper barn dance. Then families set off across the fields with Dorothy herself, meeting characters, solving challenges and helping find the Wizard. It&#8217;s imaginative, interactive and unlike any theatre trip they’ve done before. </p>

<p>Forget overpriced interval ice creams. Here, you get to bring your own M&amp;S picky bits. Peel open the olives, pour the Pimms and pop in a mini scotch egg. There&#8217;s a bar on site if you fancy topping up and seating is provided throughout, so you get all the outdoorsy romance of an open air theatre without having to lug your camping chairs across a field. </p>

<p><a href="https://lopemedefarm.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lopemede</a> may be a working farm, but in amongst the sheep and the wildflower meadows they’re quietly cultivating the county&#8217;s theatrical talent. As well as recruiting professional performers who commute locally, the company also creates opportunities for volunteers and young folk looking to break into the arts industry. So every ticket bought helps support a little slice of Oxfordshire&#8217;s creative scene. And that&#8217;s definitely something worth applauding.</p>
