<p>Two Michelin-starred <a href="https://www.belmond.com/hotels/europe/uk/oxfordshire/belmond-le-manoir-aux-quat-saisons" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Le Manoir Aux Quat’Saisons</a> (Le Manoir for short) is considered one of the best hotel restaurants in the whole of Europe, and has taken pride of place at the edge of the Great Milton village for 40 years. Not a bad local boast, right?&nbsp;You&#8217;ll have to get on the phone quick if you&#8217;d like to nab a table though – <a href="https://bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/latest-news/superflash-news-beyonce-oxfordshire-raymond-blanc-le-manoir/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">L</a><a href="https://bucksoxon.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/latest-news/superflash-news-beyonce-oxfordshire-raymond-blanc-le-manoir/">e Manoir is closing</a> for 18 months from Jan 2026. </p>



<p>But it’s not the only culinary wonder in town, not even close. <a href="https://www.thebullgreatmilton.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Bull</a> holds the bragging rights of oldest pub, wetting local whistles since 1684. Fast-forward 350-ish years, and The Bull remains frozen in time with original stone walls and shutters and distinctive thatched roof. Inside it’s warm and contemporary, with a menu that makes the most of local produce – we’ll have the Bull burger and seasonal risotto, please! They throw a pretty good shindig too – check the website for events, including pop-food trucks, wine &amp; cheese nights and a raucous Oktoberfest celebration.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>If you think we’re done, think again. <a href="https://www.lambinnlittlemilton.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Lamb Inn</a> is a Michelin Guide-recommended, AA Rosette-winning family run restaurant a couple of minutes’ drive down the road in Little Milton. Once a 15<sup>th</sup> century free house, it has a small but perfectly formed seasonal menu (lamb rack with bacon jam and a confit garlic mayo, anyone?) and a carefully curated wine list. If the thought of French food is tickling your fancy, <a href="https://www.latabledalix.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">La Table D’Alix</a>&nbsp; is also just a few minutes away in Great Haseley, while <a href="https://www.themoleinn.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Mole Inn</a>, another AA-Rosette winning restaurant, is just 15 mins away.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>The owner of the village shop and post office recently retired but don’t fear, as there are some incredible farms shops nearby. <a href="https://thewildpig.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Wild Pig</a> is a working farm shop just 9 mins’ away. Fill your basket with fresh meat and fish, cheese, fruit and veg and homemade pies and pastries. <a href="https://www.sandylanefarm.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sandy Lane Farm</a> is the same distance and you can get their veggie boxes delivered or pick them up from the farm. They even run cooking demos if you need some dinner inspiration.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>Need a shopping day (trick question – of course you do!)? Thame is just up the road and has a bustling high street that includes Mint Velvet, Fat Face and White Stuff, plus a whole bunch of independent boutiques and artisan stores. <a href="https://www.cornfieldbakery.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cornfield Bakery</a> is here too, tempting you with cakes and baked goodies.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>The <a href="https://www.theoxfordbelfry.co.uk/spa/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Oxford Belfry Spa</a> is 5 mins away, and when you book a spa day you get to use the health club and gym too. Head another couple of minutes up the road to the <a href="https://www.theoxfordshire.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Oxfordshire</a> golf and spa hotel for a little four-star pampering. If you’re looking for a nature break, it’s 12 mins to the beautiful <a href="https://www.waterperrygardens.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Waterperry Gardens</a>, or 15 mins to the <a href="https://tickets.ox.ac.uk/webstore/shop/viewItems.aspx?cg=bga&amp;c=ARB" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Harbour Arboretum</a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>There are loads of easy walks through the village and surrounding areas, including a pleasant three-hour round-trip wander to the restored <a href="http://www.wheatleymill.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wheatley Windmill</a>.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/oxfordshire-buckinghamshire-berkshire/chilterns-countryside/watlington-hill-short-walk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Watlington Hill</a> nature reserve is just 20 mins drive away. There are short and circular walks through chalk meadows and woodlands with butterflies and birds fluttering overhead. Bliss!&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>You can also join the <a href="https://www.nationaltrail.co.uk/en_GB/short-routes/phoenix-trail-thame-princes-risborough/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Phoenix Trail</a> in Thame or Princes Risborough. This old railway line is now a picturesque walking and cycling path stretching from Buckinghamshire to Oxfordshire. It’s traffic free, so a great family day out.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Want clubs? No problem! Take your pick from cricket, football, athletic and tennis, drama and arts and crafts. The rec ground is also where they hold the village fete, school sports day and fireworks party (there’s a great kids’ playground there too).&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>Grab your blankets and load up on popcorn, there’s movie magic happening under the stars at <a href="https://www.themoleinn.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Mole Inn</a>, which hosts regular alfresco cinema nights in the summer. They’ve just finished a fancy reno too, so it’s definitely worth a nosey.&nbsp;<a href="https://thewildpig.com/hot-air-balloon/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wild Pig Farm Shop</a> – rather randomly – also offers hot air balloon rides over the stunning Oxfordshire countryside. If you prefer your feet to stay on solid ground, <a href="https://www.commonleysshootingground.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Common Leys Farm</a> offer clay pigeon shooting every other Sunday. Kids will love <a href="https://www.oxfordwetnwild.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Oxford Wet n Wild</a> aqua park.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Le Manoir’s Cookery School is kind of a big deal, but you might not realise that green thumbs are catered for too. <a href="https://www.raymondblanc.com/experiences/the-raymond-blanc-gardening-school/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Raymond Blanc Gardening School</a> runs workshops from Le Manoir’s botanic glasshouse. Not only will you be privy to some of their botanical secrets, you’ll get loads of inspo for your own veggie plot and they’ll even serve you lunch while you learn. Sounds blooming great to us!&nbsp;Just book in quick before it goes into hibernation for 2026. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute-nbsp">COMMUTE&nbsp;</h2>



<p>Great Milton is just 40 mins drive to Oxford city centre (12 miles), and around 70-90 mins to central London (50 miles). Haddenham and Thame Parkway train station is 15 mins away. From there it’s 30 mins to Oxford and 40-60 mins to London Marylebone.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
